Unfortunately this cannot be explained away by a rise in reporting or different methods, as this is an actual count of bodies 🙁

Violence levels have been increasing for decades, its no mystery as to why scientists and experts even knew in advance that this would happen.
Its unlikely that much will be done to prevent it and the long term effects (every generation is more violent because they are raised by more violent parents) just gets worse with each generation.
The single largest contributing factor to violence and aggression is not poverty, drugs, weapons, religion, minorities or anything in the likes of that. Its actually media violence. This is much thanks to the fact that nearly every family owns a TV and is influenced by it.
I think the best solution to the problem is information. Most people understand children should not be watching porn, if they also understood they should not be watching violence it would go a long way.
TV and media violence is like matches, can be both a useful tool or a hazard depending on wether the user is aware of the potential risks and dangers.
The military has been aware of all this for a long time and they know a lot about killing and violence and all the psychological aspects of it. Some of them have a message or a plea to parents and society, “stop teaching our kids to kill”.
If you wish to learn about media violence I recommend Killology Research Group, A Warrior Science Group: Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman, Author – Jonesboro, Arkansas , Dave Grossman is perhaps the biggest expert on the subject (what influences and affects humans ability to kill)
