what's going on?

Once again found myself at a loose end this weekend and ended up in Kings Cross for yet another IRS party. I could tell from the start that this wasn't going to be anything like the last two parties, the building looked smaller, there were less people and only 3 systems across about 4 or 5 floors. The building next door was a huge, empty office block which looked much better for having a party in. But I suppose if you've only got a couple of systems there's not much point in hi-jacking a building with hundreds of rooms.

IRS were set-up in the basement, their usual nice rig playing out the kind of jungle you only ever hear at free parties (funny that!?). Then upstairs on the first floor Social Distortion had their own little five people gabba rave going on. No atmosphere at all here, so I made my way up another floor and found quite a big room with another techno/gabba system (might've been Xbones). This room was pretty rammed, and it seemed to take for ever to get in or out through the tiny door. The next floor was empty, covered in broken glass, and completely gutted. Fire extinguishers and door frames lying on the floor, graffiti all over the walls and pipes hanging from the ceiling.

At the very top was a little boiler room and a small balcony, I think, but i didn't get that far, only saw it from outside. When I left, fairly early, it was getting quite crowded, nearly impossible to move on the stairs and I couldn't really be bothered with it all. It's a shame there wasn't another cinema party this week. Nevermind, maybe next week's party'll be somewhere a bit more exciting. I remember seeing some Italian scribbled on a wall at this party: "IL MUSICONE DOVE?!" Roughly translated (correct me if i'm wrong) as "where's the music?". That pretty much summed up the party for me, not much music, even less atmosphere. two buses, and a taxi home in the cold. roll on next week!
