what's going on?

It's been a lovely dry day during the day, but it starts to rain lightly as soon as we approach Wantage. After making a couple of wrong turns, we eventually find the right road leading to the Ridgeway. We pull into the track entrance, right behind a reversing cop car, blocking them in. Our motor gets moved out of their way pretty quick, and abandoned at the entrance rather than driving further up the track.

The path leading up to the Monument has two main tracks, one really rough and muddy, and the other is like a dream compared. Unfortunately somebody leaves a bright red van blocking off the decent track, and forces everybody wanting to get their car up to the party, up the rough track. This causes Kaos! Cars slowly make their way up the track, get stuck for a bit, get pushed out and eventually make it to the Monument.

The systems are still setting up as we turn up. Korrupt from Reading are the first rig we come across, they have a tarpaulin stretched out keeping a few people dry. They switch on, and pump out drum and bass. Surrounding the Monument are four more systems. Brave Nu Krew from Swindon setup on the actual war memorial itself. Darkstar also from Swindon, brought their system along and had a nice position overlooking the amazing Oxfordshire views that stretch for miles.

Headfuk from London, have made the journey out from the smoke, and into the country. Respect to them for making the effort. They set themselves up at the far end, and played a nice mix of dark and quick tunes. As they're one of the first systems to get going, they have quite a few people surrounding the speakers for most of the night.

Survival are the last system out of the five. They pitched themselves behind the Monument, and had plenty of wind and rain cover for the rig itself. They didn't have a mixer for the first hour or so, and played strange up tempo dub tunes for ages, until a mixer could be found. Once going though, they kicked ass, with a blinding techno set. Definitely the biggest crowd I've seen Survival play to. I think they enjoyed themselves!

Top night. Well over a 1000 people there. Cars parked everywhere. General Kaos. Great atmosphere. Plus the rain had stopped by 2.30am, with a clear sky forming a beautiful sunny morning. Nice.

I had to leave reasonably early as my lift home was going. Walking back down the track, cars had been left and abandoned everywhere. People were still trying to get past the red van on the way out, and some had completely grounded their cars. One Astra driver had driven straight into a ditch and was 45 degrees on its side - I'm sure they'll get their car towed out by some kind person in a 4x4.

The druids of Kaos, once again, make a night to remember.
