what's going on?

A wet, rainy, Saturday daytime makes me depressed. I cheer up, as soon as I see the clouds disappear and the sun reappear to warm up the wetlands. Kaos is on tonight. They're holding it up near the M40 again - four or five systems up in a field next to the Ridgeway.

I ring System Co-Existance on the off chance that they are taking their rig out..... and they are. It's my mate Tom's birthday tonight, and I make the decision that a smaller party would be more suitable for the 15 of us, to stick together and have a good time.

A four car convoy, starts on the journey up to the White Horse hill. It's quite a distance, but we make it up there for about 1am. We notice coloured spotlights on the way, confirming the location - driving up the hill to the car park, we pull in.....not so many cars here, but the system has been setup at the top of the car park. 10 minutes after we get there, and the tunes are switched on. System Co-existance haven't really put the word out about the party, and are really testing their new 4x 18" speaker cabinets more than anything.

It took a good couple of hours, before everyone settled into the night. Decent techno, came from the two DJ's, that took it in turns to spin.

Weird things start to happen around 3am - while on a walk, a Lunar Eclipse happens right in front of us...the moon starts to disappear followed by it's re-appearance... although I went down for the Eclipse in Cornwall last summer, this Lunar Eclipse was much more of a sight to witness...totally amazing and very unexpected.

Things start to get light, and most of the party goes wandering on the White Horse hill. The sunrise is quite amazing, and to add to the effect, a fresh crop circle is pointed out to me literally at the bottom of the hill. We must have been the first people to see it properly, as it was about 6am, and it had to have been done during the night - may'be something to do with the Lunar Eclipse....who knows!?! *

Coming back from the sunrise spectacular, the beats from the system come to a halt. Walking back into the carpark, and the system gets switched off. It's about 7am or so, and my car stereo comes on for an hour or so, while the system gets packed away. During this time, a Ferrari turns up in the car park... obviously a rich local taking his motor out for a Sunday spin... I've never seen a Ferrari like it....really box'y shape to it. He drives it through the car park, and past all the party cars. Lil' Jim was mid-manoeuvre in Tom's car......he hasn't driven in two years - and finds an expensive Ferrari trying to get through the gap he is reversing into.

So, it's been a really good night. Really personal party for Tom... almost if we'd hired out the system for his b'day.... we say our goodbyes, and headed off in the direction of Lambourn.....where we encounter the local rozzers.... we drive by in two cars, with blatant party people in it - they even looked in the back seat as we drove by, and saw skinning up in action.... we were pretty lucky not to get chased and stopped.

* A bit of research has been done on the net, regarding the cropcircle we saw. CropCircleResearch gives you the option to search for past circles. Uffington was put in the search engine, and lo and behold, the circle we saw on Saturday night was there! Apparently it's been there since July, and it's been kept pretty well since then. The O/S grid reference the website gives for that circle, is exactly in the place that we saw it. also check here for a complete review of the circle!....not so fresh as I originally thought then!
