A few thousand miles away maybe, but apparently cinema parties are all the rave out here in Brazil as well.
An old porno cinema, downtown by the bus station, housing my first taste of South American mayhem, a night not that dissimilar to days of old in Hackney. same nutty people; crusties, pillheads, suits....even drag queens. I guess there are some plus's and minus's. The soundsystem made any London rigs look pathetic and the organisers put on an amazing light show. The absence of any noticeable crack dealers was a nice thing too and the security meant that one small English boy didn't feel too daunted by these crazy foreigners.
On the down side techno was the only thing to be heard and well, you just can't beat a bit of London squat party danger can you? All in all a pretty good night - and I've found myself a new cigarette lighter too.
