I'm back in Sydney and working hard....so when I hear about a Trancendance party happening at the weekend I can't wait for Saturday night to roll around. By chance during the week I spot a poster advertising an OmsnotBombs party happening close to the city.....two parties on the same night...always the way! so...I get the direction for Trancendance on the Friday, and find out that it's 150k away.... about 80miles....with 25 of those miles down dirt tracks! I always have problems getting to parties out here, simply because of a lack of transport. I decide that the easier option is to head to the OmsnotBombs beach party.....it's only a bus journey away!
We arrive at Sydney's Central station before midnight, and work out which bus we need to catch to Botnay Bay..by ten past twelve were on our way south. Getting off the bus at the last stop possible, we look around the carpark we've arrived in and suss out the party people vehicles that are lined up all around us....definitly a party happening close by.
Following a few people who get off the bus with us, they lead us down some steps and onto a sandy beach. After walking for a while, we start to hear thumping beats. Climbing the rocks at the end of the beach - we have obviously taken the hazardous route.... little did we know there was a path close by!
Climbing down off the rocks and onto the next beach, we arrive at the party. The beach is about 100 metres long and sandy for the entire length. In the middle, OmsnotBombs soundsystem have set themselves up, playing dub to the gathering party people. Because of the location of the party, the organisers have had to blag a motorboat off someone to ship all the equipment to the site... so the speaker system wasn't quite as large as a typical party....but good enough to supply the vibes.
The music changes to drum and bass after an hour or so, and I take a walk along the beach to the end... where I find another system setting themselves up. System Corrupt are one the few genuine free party soundsystems in Sydney and have done quite a few parties in an old squatted cinema just outside of the city centre. After a while the system switches itself on, and plays drum & bass and heavy techno throughout the night. The system builds up a dancefloor and keeps the dancers happy with the heavy beats. Someone lights a beach fire, and the ever present fire twirlers come out...trancing people out with their amazing light shows.
Back at OmsnotBombs and quite a few people are dancing - the vibe here is pretty good. A live techno act are pumping out the repeative beats, with a DJ spinning a few tunes in and out with the 303/synth sounds being produced. For the rest of the night, techno is played by Omsnotbombs....the sea is only a few metres away and quite a few people strip off and jump in...... sharks swim in those waters!
We dance, hang around & meet people throughout the night, and generally have a great time. Both systems go on well into the morning, and the weather manages not to rain us until we get back on the bus home. Shame the weather wasn't clearer, but the location was perfect.. (although an east facing beach would have been better for the sunrise)... top night out, and out of the city! which makes a nice change for me at the minute. Big respect to everyone involved with the beach party.
