what's going on?

After coming back from my summer holiday - Big Chill festival, followed by five days in Cornwall (inc. a pre-eclipse free party on Tuesday night up on the moors near Penzance's) - we found a party happening down near Horsham, Sussex. Travelling down about 11pm from Reading, following some dodgy directions down through back roads we eventually turned up at a car park/picnic site in the South Down's hills. A few other cars were starting to turn up, so we parked up and asked about what was happening. The system was setup up in the woods which were close by. The generator they had brought down was broken, and another one was fetched from Horsham. This took 40 minutes or so to sort out. People put their car stereos on, and a few even got bored and left, but quite a few more stayed.

When the second generator turned up, everyone got out of their cars and walked into the woods. The pathway down to the system was a twisty little path - which you really needed a torch to see where you were going - A small clearing now hosted a fire, a soundsystem and about 250 people. The generator was still giving problems to the organisers, cutting out every 5 minutes or so. It evenutally sorted itself out - by this time it was close to 2am.

The rig had a few lights positioned up in the trees and wicked trance and techno was pumped out of the speakers. The atmosphere was very friendly making it a sorted party. We stayed dancing until about 6am, when we had to leave as our lift was going, but we really didn't want to go. The sunrise on the way home from the South Down's was probably one of the best I've ever seen. Nice finish to a wicked holiday.
