On Satuday the 5th of June it became a Mecca for all of Manchesters 'mad for it' free party crews. The venue was squatted and announced only two days before the event but the word of mouth grape vine was faster and more efficient than a scrambled FM radio signal. By one o'clock on saturday there was a fat (not fat enough, but fat) system on the stage of the Hac with as many punters as could possibly be got through the doors in one hour.
Then came the police, presumably they were scared of the unknown factor, or perhaps held a grudge against people who are free-thinking enough to see a shit situation and be motivated enough to do something about it. Perhaps they just saw another situation where they could get there batons out, whatever their reason they came. They were immediatley locked out, and with them hundreds of people gagging to get perhaps the last chance to dance on the dance floor that made history. Obviously this was what you might call 'a bit of a shitter'. Despite the fact that the Hac was buzzin like 88, the outside was now buzzin like Tianemin square. The police were being well heavy handed (again) and beating anyone that tried to make it to the party that would make free party history. The doors were getiing rushed and with a bit of co-ordination some managed to get through the police lines but then they brought down the horses to sit on the doors. The hacienda has had previously somne of the roughest toughest most well connected gangster bouncers of any club in the north, but to stop this lot getting in it was gonna take more than that. What they had to do was run a terror campaign, put the shits up people enough to stop them trying. Horses, batons, guns and brain dead TSG should just about do it? but no.
Loads of people still tried some succeeded in climbing the walls some were arrested trying and given a few beats immediately in front of everybody. The attempted terror campaign was failing so they had to the shut off the whole of Whitworth street to keep the crowds away. Now this is mental, what the fuck is going on here.
I personally reckon that if that many people want to show their
support then let 'em. The police are fighting a loosing battle. with
this kind of support from this number of people surely they must realise
that the more they keep batoning people the more riled we will all get.
Nobody's like to see injustices, especially not in their faces when they
are trying to have a good time. This is supposed to be a pluralist
democracy, if we don't fight our own battles who will? We have the right
to do this, that's what the pluralist doctrine demands if we sit back
the fuckers will get what they want. We get a chance every five years to
state our favorite color red or blue in a general election. Thats not
expressing an opinion if we are to live by the rules of a democracy we
have to have government 'for the people by the people'. That means get
involved in politics, we are expected to do so, so don't be suprised
when we do. Support the cause.
