Three people have been found guilty of supplying thousands of cannabis-laced chocolate bars to multiple sclerosis sufferers for pain relief.

The Cumbrian couple admitted running a cottage industry making and posting out more than 20,000 Canna-Biz bars containing about 3.5g of the drug, to victims of the disease around the world.

With a name like that they were asking for trouble :groucho:

“I think there’s a mistake in the law, and I think they really, really really need to re-think the law on cannabis and medicinal use. Bringing ill people to court and torturing them like this isn’t what you do.

“You look after ill people, and you try to make them better. You do not torture them and drag them back and forward to a court of law.”

    Well put.

    The full story is here

I’ve been following this cas quite closely, to be honest I am disgusted at the outcome.

How can someone be tried twice for, ultimately, the same crime and their defence no longer be appliable the second time round. The first time she was aquitted on the grounds of medical necessity, this time that was thrown out.

    What has changed?

Has there been new drugs released which will ease her suffering, and the suffering of others with MS?

They have openly send the bars to people who can prove they have MS, through requiring a doctors note, for years. The police knew what was happening and have met with them several times. They ran their business in a very open manner, not attempting to hide a thing, yet they are being treated like common drug dealers.

There is a massive difference between what they do and what other drug dealers do, THEY WERE A NON PROFIT ORGANISATION. How many drug dealers could claim that. They did not run the business to make money, in fact Mark kept a ledger of the prices paid and how many bars were sent to who whic proved this. Suprisingly enough this was “lost” after being seized by police.

This was an absolute farce and I don’t even want to get started properly on it as I will probably explode. How can we claim to be real human beings if there is no space for morals within our legal system.

I don’t know how the judge and jury can sleep at night.

double jepoardy law was removed in England a few years ago after some murderers got off because of clever defences….. its only for murder and serious drugs crimes but its possible that a dealing crime would be classed as serious..

the law may still be the old version north of Carlisle.. (perhaps they should have just moved a few miles across the border?)

this is yet another reason for the world to tear up the UN Single convention on narcotics..

Surely this could have been avoided had cannabis been allowed for medical use as in Canada?

Doesnt seem right to me that an MS sufferer is unable to legally get the only painkiller which works for them :hopeless: :hopeless: :hopeless:

suspended snetance, but as they point out, possible maximum sentance is 14, compared to 12 for a convicted peadophile

    wrong as it gets
