thanks! 🙂

No they aren’t. Please do not eat these. You should do some research into what liberty caps look like before you waste time picking random mushrooms in the hope they might be liberty caps.

Mostly not. I think one or 2 in the bottom photographs are magics but the vast majority are not. Sorry.

“Liberty Caps” – they should have a little nipple on the top. Can be tricky to see in different lights, but it’s best to make sure.

I doubt you got any poisonous amanitas though, and they are ROUGHLY the right size for magics.

Just because a shroom has a nipple on top, doesn’t automatically make it a libby. 😛 There are a fair few other species that have this. It has to tick all the boxes of qualities and not tick any of the boxes that are “make sure it doesn’t have this” for a mushroom to be identified properly. Some of them do have nipples and look very similar to shrooms, but they have other features to them that says to me they aren’t libbies (the caps being too “open” is the main thing).

I have yet to come across a fungi species in northern Europe with a nipple on it that wasn’t a Liberty Cap.

EDIT: There is such a mushroom but as it is edible, what problem? It certainly doesn’t look like the a small magic variety;-

Quite a good field guide to UK mushroom at the parent site;-

im a mushroom picking noob (in that i’ve not picked a liberty cap) but even for me its clear to see you have no liberty caps there

sorry pat, er which 2 are liberties in the bottom picture? i can’t see them. im not sure lighting will affect ability too see nipple, unless its dark… and i doubt a poisonous amanita was picked either as they grow in the woods (dangerous) whereas liberties are generally picked in the field (less dangerous). it may not be so useful to pipe up unless u have knowledge or experience, especially on a topic of avoiding poisoning… again, do contribute, but if u dont really know its ok, just say ‘but i dont really know’… its ok 😉

Look at the brown one right in the centre – top is facing upwards.

Of the bottom four in the next picture, second from the left is a contender (could be a shadow causing the tip though)

they’re definitely not liberties in the bottom one. the mushroom is too round, there is no nipple and the stem isn’t twisted or blue. the top pic, the mushroom has just the head and no stem and u cant see underneath so is really stretching my noob powers, but i would say again its probably not a liberty and if u turned it upside down you’d probably see it is the wrong shape. also mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of a mycelium network, so if there’s one there are probably quite a few more and so is somewhat unlikely to only find one liberty

the colouring on the one in the middle doesn’t look right, but like know_hope says you need to see the whole mushroom otherwise it’s really hard to be certain what it is, the ones in the bottom pic deffo arn’t as they are too round and the fins don’t go back up inside them like with libbies (you’re confusing the shadow of the stalk of the other mushroom as a nipple!).

Yes they “kinda” look like libbies, but they arn’t.

most of um look like psilocybe to me cubenis and semilanceata not every mushroom looks the same as semil/liberty cap plus most liberty caps dont look like liberty caps as your mind imagines them its rare i find perfect shape colour liberty caps mushrooms are safe its toad stools u wanna watch out for death caps especially half of one can kill you and they look fairly similar but side by side fairly obvious difference death caps generally have a veil like cobweb thing from the cap to the stem if the veil has gone there a yellow ring on the stem but the first most obvious thing to me is magic mushrooms defy gravity with the massive spindly stem carrying a massive cap if its got a short stem liberty or not i leave it just not worth the stressing later on worrying what ive eaten lol
although the second picture has got discolouring around the point where the stem meets the cap and way too chunky to be mushroom caps id say they are death caps just bin what your not sure of its not worth the risk keep what you are definate are psilo and then u can chill and enjoy your trip with out pranging

i didnt really get all of that… ive never picked cos im paranoid, have alternatives and dont know any pickers but my understanding was these are liberty caps

these are death caps (in the woods where u dont look for psilocybe mushrooms and probably shouldn’t pick at all unless skilled)

and these look like random mushrooms that would grow on grass and probably won’t kill u but u may be sick

    ^^ Cubensis

^^semilanceata (Which DO NOT have white fins!)

On the underside of the mushroom’s cap, there are between 15 and 27 individual narrow gills that are moderately crowded together, and they have a narrowly adnexed to almost free attachment to the stem. Their color is initially pale brown, but becomes dark gray to purple-brown with a lighter edge as the spores mature.

Always avoid mushrooms with white fins! 99% of magic mushroom species do not have white fins, and the ones that DO are pretty rare and hard to spot (you defiantly don’t get them in the UK!). Even the top mushroom bods say it can be hard to identify the ones with white fins to enough of a certainty to want to eat them , so for amateurs I’d say it’s a definite nono. Them ones in the pics are defiantly NOT any kind of magic mushroom.

Do not eat them, regardless of what anyone says (unless you get them identified by an expert as the rarest gourmet mushrooms going … then fire up the frying pan by all means lol … just don’t expect to get high :P)

If them mushroom’s are his natural selection, then yes I guess so. 😛
