There’s a pretty sound free party scene in Leeds, but it’s often limited to remote forests and hillsides of the north yorkshire moors because of the barbaric west yorkshire police. most of the parties last summer were around Otley, or towards York or Harrogate. there aren’t many indoor locations in town because of the police.. although there are occasional squat parties (look out for aspire).
weather also means that they are mostly in the summer, from about June they’ll be every weekend, they start being more frequent in April-ish.
as for music, anything goes, lots of acid techno, drum and bass, hardcore/ gabba, psytrance, dub, whatever, the atmosphere is friendly and there’s never any problems except getting home on sunday afternoon!
however the parties I’ve been to were rarely advertised, they are mostly word of mouth. where in leeds do you live?
until then, check out the West Indian Centre in Chapeltown, a lot of soundsytems do nights there when the weather is bad, you’ll have lots of fun at cabbage or cypher or subdub depending on what you like.
