Hello everyone, Iām a third year music production student, and Iām currently writing my dissertation. The title of my dissertation is this:
WHAT EFFECT DOES THE INTERNET HAVE ON THE PERCEIVED SENSE OF COMMUNITY WITHIN THE FREE PARTY SCENE?
I need to get some primary research, in order to answer my question, so I have written up this questionnaire. I would be very, very grateful if you kind people could spare some time and fill it in for me. The questions are deliberately open, not multiple choice, so please feel free to elaborate and/or waffle on to your heartās content ā all thoughts are useful! Iām afraid I can offer no incentive for your help accept the warm glow of doing a good deed, but whatās better than that? ; ) Thanks in advance everyone!
If you would like to do the questionnaire, just copy and paste it into an email, fill it in, and send it to. John_wadders@hotmail.com. Cheers
1.How did you get involved in the free party scene?
2.How long have you been involved in it?
3.How often, on average, do you attend free parties?
4.Would you agree that the free party scene represents āa communityā?
5.Do you think that the idea of community is important to the free party scene?
6.If so, why is it important?

Thanks for your time.
if anyone would feel more comfortable about replying to my uni email address rather than my hotmail address, it is 019990313@chester.ac.uk
just to make sure that i am a student, and not the old bill as some people have been thinkin. So like i say, i’d be well gratefull for some replies – it only takes 5 mins, go on (pleeeeeease) š
Well. I’m not accusing you of being old bill, I don’t think you are. But I think the questions you are asking are a bit alarming and would suplly certain organisations with far too much information as to how things operate. Therefore I don’t think they should be written down on paper in a report. Even if it is a uni project. Sorry mate.
Yes, I know i’m paranoid š
unfortunately I have to agree with BioTech.
A recent tragic event at a free party widely reported in the UK media has have brought this scene under intense (and unwanted) scrutiny from the authorities – now is not the time for too much to be discused in the public domain. free parties, fun as they are, operate outside the law and there are many who would rather they quite simply did not happen. information on “how the machine works”, can of course be used to destroy it…..
as your course is a general music one rather than a humanities subject, may I suggest you perhaps re-write your research and aim it perhaps at the licensed club dance music scene. that way you can obtain the required information to progress in your studies without the danger of incriminating anyone or causing damage to a scene you no doubt love as much as we do…..
I think the answers to the questions, from the pigs POV, are pretty easy to find right here on this site already.
I don’t think the questions are particularly intrusive, more of a personal insight into how the community works….but are you guys thinking that somehow they’ll shut down the net if they see that its important to the free party scene? I mean considering all the illegal shit you can get on here, talking about free parties is pretty damn tame!
I only get annoyed when details of specific venues and parties are given out, ruining the actual event…I don’t think the old bill are as unwise as to how people communicate…and to be honest I don’t think they’d care about the kind of answers you can give to those Q’s.
That being said, I don’t feel able to answer your Q’s as clearly people aren’t comfortable with it and although I disagree with the reasons to a certain extent….their wishes must come first. Sorreee!
But cool project š
PS Anyone who answers the Q’s should just use their common sense…some things are obvious ya know?!
Yeah, I know what you mean. But these questions just seemed a bit alarming:
I know the police realise the internet plays a part in the party scene. And I certainly don’t think they will shut the sites in question down, because of course they get an easy source of info from them.
But I don’t think it should be documented how it is used and to what extent. From my point of view (running a rig and a website) I wouldn’t want to divulge info on how I use the interent and how many others find information from us. I’m probably just being paranoid but I don’t think its a good idea to have solid info flying around on the way rigs/party people communicate.
As for the other questions, I don’t see a problem.
i think the net is a good way of communicating with other party heads but just recently i tink too much is being said on the net and that side of thing s should go back to word or mouth and numbers
alot of of the bad elements are to exposed on the net giving various sources information to the wrong peeps and giving the partys a bad name
