  • Easy, people, am lookinhg forward to sorting out a native beats tour this summer or next…have freeparties covered, what i need to sort is clubnights. i have acts (altho offers / suggestions wouldn’t go amisss) but dont know many good clubs in random cities….primary targets…

    some wher in norfolk…
leeds sheffeild, newcastle, edinburough(?), manchester, brum, bristol, devon some where (exeter?) salisbury, southhampton, brighton, and finally, the big bad Don.

any info about these areas re clubs, parties and fests, offers of link ups etc, gimme a shout (or post)..

right, i really am goin to bed now… fucking visualls up all night… gbyegain

    nice one USE

if you’re heading down to the westcountry, you could try the Phoenix Centre http://www.exeterphoenix.org.uk/ in exeter…. not a bad venue (can be slightly disjointed) but gets booked up far in advance for annual events like the RESPECT festival or film festivals etc. You could do worse than sending a demo to Future Sound of Exeter http://www.exeternet.freeserve.co.uk/ as they work closely with the Phoenix

The Cavern Club http://www.cavernclub.co.uk/ is the favourite for a grotty, sweaty basement club filled with a messy, dancing crowd 😎 their website looks pretty punk, an they do have strong live music events, but midweek and fridays are a good bet

If you reckon you can pull a larger crowd, try contacting the Lemon Grove http://guild.ex.ac.uk/content/guild_entertainments/ which is based on the University campus

all the other clubs are real shit holes… shoes, shirts, cheap aftershave, fat girls in lycra drunker than shit, psycho doormen type places 🙁

if you fancy a night out in Plymouth, I’m a bit out of touch…haven’t been down there since mid 90’s when the vibe was still very much alive at Cultural Vibes… nowadays you might try the Dance Academy http://www.danceacademy.co.uk/ if you wanted to ‘Ave It Large’

not certain about the future of the Bus Stop  which used to rock it last year

If you wanna head on down to deepest darkest Cornwall… PM me and hopefully I can hook you up with some of the promoters there 😉

Hopefully looks like summer is shaping up to be a good one for NativeBeats

try and avoid coming from mid may to mid June (he says selfishly) as I’m gonna be on standby for rushing into the maternity hospital… but let me know when you are on your way and we can make sure there’s a good spot for after 😉

I suppose you could try the Fez club in Reading which is one of the “least worst” (its OK inside apart from overpriced drinks, and no-one has been shot) – some friends of mine promote events there so I’ll have a word next time I see them.

There’s also a place in Wantage (Oxfordshire, near enough to Reading, Oxford, Wycome and Milton Keynes) which a lot of the crowd from that area use, which is mentioned on SJ sometimes. (and on our calender, its called Challows Nightclub!)

Reading University also might hire out the SU bar (although they may have stopped after bare ruckus at these events)

only 80% of Reading is a chav-filled warzone, which leaves 20% of decent bits. I will try and investigate any good venues in that 20% 😉

What sort of stuff does Native Beats play Use?

id say playin eithr the venue or the honeycomb if your in edinburgh…tho theres quite a few dnb breaks an hip hop clubs around here…tho that ska may tip things over the edge.

on second thought’s I’d forget about that venue.

    Quote:
    Two held over university stabbing
Two men have been arrested in connection with a stabbing near a university’s student union.

A man in his 20s was found near the entrance to Reading University’s SU in Whiteknights Road early on Sunday.

He had suffered stab wounds to his stomach and a head injury and was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Police think the incident may be linked to an earlier robbery and two men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery and assault.

    Robbery

The victim, who is a local man but is not a student, was said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

Detectives are trying to trace a third man, also thought to be in his 20s.

They are also appealing for the driver of a Mercedes, who may have witnessed the assault, to contact them.

Police believe the incident may be linked to the robbery of a student near the university SU building 15 minutes earlier. The male student was attacked by three men, who punched him in the head and stole his mobile phone. He was not seriously injured but left shaken.

Reading has a large open campus so unfortunately there has always been a problem with this sort of incident – OTOH its normally in more secluded places near the halls, not near the SU building where there is often plenty of activity and foot traffic.

The campus also has CCTV and security guards with radio comms; that this incident has happened at all shows that they were perhaps not providing as robust a security presence as they should have done.

No such place unfortunately. Not in the Norwich area. All the decent clubs have either morphed into something a lot less desirable or the new clubs are completely non underground friendly and not very suitable places.

The only ones I could suggest are the Waterfront…. or…. well, that’s it actually. 1000 capacity with both rooms open. Nice layout, fairly underground and run by the UEA student union. I’m not sure how much it is but bear in mind you will have to hire their doorteam, plus they like to speak to you first to prove that you are capable and you need to have done some previous events to prove that.

Oh and it’s open till 4.am.

All the other decent clubs have gone now. Which is shit.

Just listened to that tune on your site Use,i like that a lot….the site itself is pretty good,i love the slider. 🙂
As for places to play,i can really only suggest places in Scotland..
If you want to venture as far as Aberdeen, then you could try Jungle Nation .
    In Edinburgh,theres Manga and Obscene
    And Live-Evil in Glasgow
Doubtless i’ll think of a couple more as soon as ive posted this!

perhaps the management there would like to come down to Reading and show the SU/Uni authorities how to keep their students, staff and visitors safe – looks like our lot could do with some help.

From what I remember of the Reading uni campus (and I have been there a number of times in my life), if this level serious violence is happening that near the SU building then the security have quite simply actually lost control of the area to criminals.

I’d hope anyone here who attends Reading uni would lobby the NUS to campaign for improved student safety; with the amount these places charge in fees its essential they provide a full service and that involves not feeling unsafe on your own campus if you want to socialise at weekends!

    Bloody right!

The waterfront isn’t actually on campus though, it’s actually located on the main road of Norwich’s red light district. But on the whole it’s fairly safe.

There’s been a few times, when there with female friends of mine, that a car has rolled up and asked “how much love?”
