I am pleased to report that the first outing for the Bad Taste crew in Northern Ireland was a complete success, a great night was had by all. Due to the constraints of the site (it is used by dog walkers etc) the party was limited to one night, so all the debauchery of a 2-3 day festival had to be compressed into 12 hours. The rig was set up and ready to go by midnight and the party rocked it well into the Sunday morning until the police arrived at about 11.30am and ordered us to pack up. Most of the people at the party were getting ready to leave by then so we packed up and headed home. Cheers to everyone who turned out, it was a difficult site to get to without a car so a lot of effort was put in by everyone. Details of the next party will be released soon, watch this space.
wicked! nice one, cheers for sharin the good news…
couple o questions:
what’s the n.i. scene like? how were the police? did you tidy up? and do you have any photos? if you ask site, he’ll stick the shots in the gallery…
Hi man its good to know there is so much positivity on this board for what we are doing. The NI scene is practically non existent, we are the only crew who are doing anything techno related. There is one psy trance crew but they havent done anything in years. This party we ran will probably be the only outdoor event this year in NI (unless we do another one). There was an island party every year on Rathlin Island off the north coast, but this has been cancelled this year because of too many knobs coming last year. Unfortunately this is probably the way our parties will go eventually.
The police were sound, 4 officers arrived in the morning when there was only about 40 people left at the site so they could see that the party was ending anyway, no one gave them any lip and they just politely asked us to pack up and leave so we did. We had already done a large part of the tidying up, so the stack of binbags in the middle of the site probably told them we werent there to mess up the countryside. We went over the site and the approach path with a fine tooth comb and cleared away all our rubbish and a lot more.
Hopefully this party has shown others in the NI scene that it can be done easily, and we might see a number of rigs springing up over the next few weeks.
excellent news – with all the problems in England at the moment its good to hear of parties going off successfully..
BTW fair play to your crew for actually thinking about the other users of the site such as the dog walkers etc and knowing when to stop…
Although we do not intend to intimidate them a lot of them do get alarmed by the sight of a rave, and its often at this point that tensions rise and the cops get called to the site – especially if raves are running into Sunday afternoon when a lot of “normal” people turn up – this is one of the reasons why cops clamped down in my area…
Alrighty I know a few folk off soulseek from NI who seemes to think there was a bit more to it, I did have links to a couple rigs somewhere but I cannae find them right now. I know these guys still do parties around Eire but I’m not sure bout NI:
Audio Terrorists
Dratpak
and Tir Na gCasta
Theres also the Force 10 crew who I think might do NI as well, they do have a message board which seems to be fairly active. Try gettin in touch with a few folk via that an see. You never know, I mean I never knew there was psytrance parties goin off 20miles from my house over the last month or so.
Nice one shaolin punk! Good to hear it went well. And good on you for being reasonable with regards to shutting down etc.

Thanks for the links mate, its always good to link up with more experienced crews and learn from them. Or more accurately, learn not to make their mistakes!!!
The Force10 crew are responsible for the Rathlin Island party every year, although the official line from them is that it is not happening this year, as last years party was over run by people and the island could barely cope. I dont know if they are trying to keep it low key and will release details on the quiet, that remains to be seen.
Mate, we had to be reasonable. The police had already told us to shut it down and we didnt want to get our rig confiscated if they came back. I did feel a bit sorry for the walkers in the morning though, they mostly looked like rabbits in the headlights!!!
Seriously though, there is absolutely no point in pissing off the locals when all you want to do is sneak in, have a party and sneak out without annoying anyone. The more times we all can prove that these parties (when properly organised and executed) can go on without bothering anyone the better in my book.
Its always cool to know the local crews as wel when your startin out…not only do they know the score but they’ve generally got a fair whack of gear…an are often willing to lend bits cheap or free to help you get on your feet. Also its good for sortin out bigger parties an stuff an also makin sure you don’t rinse venues.
