The trick of calling a rave a private party only works if tickets are not sold for financial gain. Even then its not always foolproof as some parts of England actually require licenses for private events over a certain size (they changed the laws way back in Thatchers day to stop the commercial acid house parties)
I’m not sure though from the article whether this self-styled Bernard Matthews of the rave scene is actually being a grass, or just a complete idiot.
However even if his parties are done with permission unless he is letting people in for free and giving away drinks he can be rinsed under PEL laws or even by HM Revenue and Customs (who are far worse people to be on the wrong side of than the cops!).
It does sound though like he would be prepared to snout on some people either to try and put across a better case for his own PEL, or out of spite if he did get busted just to “take a few others with him”.
this sort of dispute happened back in the 80s and with the acid house parties; in some cases led to actual violence (like CS canisters being discharged into packed dancefloors by rival crews) and of course further clampdowns on the scene…
