shitting on the floor ain’t nice

there are tons of good sites for parties in Devon… but it’s becoming harder and harder

    many sites have been abused

if organisers can’t be bothered to prepare the site (that includes digging latrines) then the apparently easy-going law enforecers are going to fuck up our healthy scene

it takes half an hour for fuck sake

There are some assholes. I feel so guilty every time I read one of these articles, and why? I don’t cause this kind of damage, but you nobs who do are making me and everyone else in the party scene look like a fool!

completely agree, very frustrating as I always feel responsible to leave the place as I found it and, like last w/end, I spent an hour picking up other people’s rubbish and taking it home.

Some parties attract more idiots and some parties atract more free party poeple. The idiots who don’t care ruin it for the rest.

can’t help but feel that essentially this is what is causing more and more parties to be violently shut down by territorial support group cops (“riot police”) – all across Europe – in all cases the politicians are claiming environmental damage.

Cops are only being “easy going” because there are other priorities now after 7/7….

But our fields and environment help produce our food (even despite food imports a substantial amount of our groceries are produced in the UK)

    And this is a country/continent at war…

any activity which could be argued to be “potentially disrupting food-producing activities” or “causing pollution” can easily be “robustly dealt with” …

it’s a pretty good reason to come down on parties in fairness

if someone was shitting on the floor on my doorstep i would deal with them ‘robustly’

crews should be taking responsibility… if you are going to be somewhere for more than 12 hours (e.g. for 3 days) with hundreds of people with artificially accelerated metabolisms :weee: , dig a latrine

it will take one person half an hour

if you can build a rig, paint backdrops, recruit DJ’s, musicians, VJ’s, fire artists etc etc, you definately have the capacity to dig an 18 inch trench

    nayway

    it’s a shitty topic

but i can’t see it going away too quickly

dont jump to conclusions as obviously none of you were at this party.

i would have thought you lot should know by now to take media articles with a pinch of salt.

i was at this party and it was very well organised, there were rubbish bins, shit pits, shovels, cleaning operations daily.

when i left on tuesday afternoon, i couldnt see a single piece of shit or rubbish anywhere and the crews were just loading the bin bags into the van, they stayed another day to make sure they had all the rubbish, the locals even thanked them for cleaning up.

they also phoned the ob to say they were leaving and come check the venue to make sure its tidy as there was lots of communication with the authorites. that article is complete bullshit. nothing got broken and nothing needed cleaning up and nothing needed burying. everything had been done.

    take it easy Looney

there were a bunch of parties along the north coast of the peninsula this weekend

(fug nose why we couldn’t get them all together… let’s talk in future)

so it’s well possible I’m not talking about yours

big respect to you and yours if you really did have it all covered

but shit is becoming a real pain in the neck to explain away around here, so please excuse my rant

    well said looney!

I mean FFS doesn’t the headline “RAVERS RUN RIOT….” just slightly give it away that it’s an utter fucking pile of shite!!!
    (if u pardon the pun…)

    I mean really, that’s a terrible article..

Shit though serious stuff. Psy-Party in wales few weeks ago (beautiful spot etc) and folks take the trouble to dig a log drop – nice metal ladder balanced on saw horse type things to shit through, sawdust n lime to throw ontop – all good – except they sited it like five foot from the stream… duh.

so even people making an effort need help to get it right.

trowels are like 40p in tescos… 16p to buy in bulk…. ravers shit kits?

if people shit in the woods then party organisers should be clearing it up, some even do do that, but no one afaik goes to the trouble to stick any of this wisdom on a flyer – and even when some parties sort out shit pits and the like they often aren’t known about by most folks cos they don’t bother to signpost it.

those parties that are doin their bit should be taking and posting pix of the site once its cleared, oh i dunno, i think i’m just getting old 🙁

i know what you are saying but i do beleive the party reported on is the one i was at, as this has been on Devon radio saying the area the party was in and that was the one i’m referring to , also it was plastered all over SJ with people beleiving the article. it wasn’t my party, i had nothing to do with it , but i don’t want to see these crews getting a bad name when they put so much effort into cleaning the site.

I would bet the site was left quite clean; as they usually are these days…

but who is gonna clean up someone elses shit?

media do exaggerate but they also know they are very closely scrutinised by rave crews (and those who are pro-rave) so they can only get away with a certain amount of exaggeration, not complete fabrication of events.

The media outlets such as local papers and the BBC are still accountable to the public (including ravers) for the accuracy of their reports, as are people who make public statements to the media.

However, when people are prepared to put their name in the media complaining about disruption from a rave – it means that they genuinely feel their lives have been inconvenienced by the event, and are angry enough to make a public statement about it, even at the risk of reprisals (although I hope this would never happen)

the ravers would have dealt with about 85% of their impact on the land, but still left another 15% to the locals to clean up. This sadly happens most of the time no matter how much effort you put into cleaning up the place as TBH you can’t search every track people have followed, and you do get idiots who will chuck litter anywhere because they know no better.

I’ve known people to do really snide stuff as well like drive halfway up the track as people are leaving and fly-tip all the rubbish from their cars 🙁

Also the locals don’t appear to be complaining that much about the rave site itself; but areas of their private land about a mile away that people have wandered off into and contaminated or invaded… a lot of the beef was about someones field being used as a car park as well…

Bear in mind also its a British / middle england tradition to “grin and bear it” when they see ravers, particularly if they are reasonably civil to the locals (I’ve noticed loads of forced smiles and small talk over the year) so they can be all nice and friendly with people on the ground (often only because they are scared TBH) and when you are all gone people are whinging and moaning to the old bill and the BBC.

yeah the field did have quite a lot of cars parked in, was probably due to the police blocking off the entrance to the party so ravers were driving around and parking on the roadside which is what i had to do until a man with grey hair said it would be easier if you just park in my field rather than park in the lanes.

hmm – I wonder if it was the doctor mentioned in the news article?

Seems strange then he would then complain to the papers; although it could well be a different person….

OTOH like I said a lot of people are too spineless to complain there and then (or he feared for his safety, being heavily outnumbererd) its quite possible he felt he had been “bullied” into letting the cars park there, so let it happen, and then gathered information to fight back at a later date (interesting how the chap in the papers had taken the trouble to try and identify where people were from)

Taking over a beach like Speke Mill, really annoys the locals. I have friends who live near the beach and they were very angry about it. These are really easy going people, who know and understand the party scene.
Respect is what’s needed, holding a 3 day party on someone else’s land does take the p*ss. People in the area rely on tourism for their income, with the august bank holiday being one of the most important times. Jamming a local beauty spot with a party crew for the whole of the bank holiday is going to upset people no matter how clean the site is left.
I have been quite a few parties at this site and others nearby over the years. There was never any fuss from people nearby or the police, because, i think, they were one night wonders. Everyone cleaned up and left at first light before anyone got upset.
If you respect the site and the locals then things normally remain friendly, and don’t overstay your welcome. I have seen an irate farmer removing cars from his drive with a digger, to allow a milk tanker through.
    Cheers Tom

We had a large toilet hole dug in to the ground with a big screen that went around it, at one party.

It hardly got used though. Despite people being told about it and you could clearly see what it was. I think people are put off by the smell and the thought of it, so instead find their own little spot away from the party.

We never hold marathon 2 day+ sessions though. Usually just 14hr affairs. So maybe we don’t get many shitters.

A trowel has to be the way forward though!

I was at a party on a cliff edge not very high 15 foot or so. We told people about the cliff and put up tape and stuff. However, people looking for a quiet spot to pee just ignored the shouts of ” oi mate there’s a cliff there” and promptly fell down it. It happened a few times despite the sound system being stopped and while warnings were given over the PA. Some guy broke his leg in the end. Still the helicopter that came to pick him up was dead entertaining, plus with its search lights everyone got to see the cliff!
