Lorries were travelling from across the country to the Downs
Police stopped an illegal rave from going ahead which they said would have been as loud as 25 jet engines.
Officers received intelligence that a convoy of lorries was travelling to an event for 4,000 people in West Sussex on Saturday night.
Sussex Police said 30 lorries and vans had arrived at Steyning from Cambs, Northants and the Midlands.
Police said organisers had intended to play music night and day until Monday afternoon.
Officers said patrols were placed on alert and the convoy of lorries was seen between Lancing and Steyning just before 2300 BST.
A spokesman said a helicopter was scrambled to search the Sussex Downs and lorries containing sound equipment were found at Steyning Bowl.
Officers who went to the site found 30 vehicles, four stages set up with lighting and six separate sound systems.
This was going to be a huge event
Insp Marcus Potter
Organisers were told to leave or face confiscation of equipment and arrest under special police powers, the spokesman added.
Large numbers of ravers were turned away.
Police said the last of the vehicles left the site at about 0340 BST on Sunday.
Insp Marcus Potter said “This was going to be a huge event which would have caused significant disturbance to the residents of Steyning and the surrounding areas. “The sound equipment that these organisers had set up would have produced a noise the equivalent of 25 jet engines, and they were intending to play night and day until Monday afternoon.”
“As loud as 25 jet engines”, sounds like it would have been a fucking good one, but the bastards got there to soon. :you_smart :get_you: :get_you: :get_you: :you_smart
Just had a look on the net to find out how muh energy a jet engine can produce. And basically the average boeing 747 needs 45 megawatts of energy to stay airborne, so if a 747 has four engines then thats roughly the same noise as 6.25, 747’s (i think, correct me if i am wrong) which would be 281.25 megawatts of power. Must have been a fuckin good rig:bigsmile:
However i think the old bill should get their fucking facts straight before they start spouting crap like that.

The amount of power is not relative to how noisy it is though. Look at the decibels a jet engine would produce and then you’ll have a better picture.
kk will check out the decibel equivilent but i have no real comparison to the decibels an average rig would produce. However im sure that it will still be grossly over exagerated. Cheers for the info though:bigsmile:
A decent rig will do about 145-150db at a guess.
Yeah I’d agee with you on that one. 🙂
Perhaps WE should shut down all the fucking airports because of noise polution then!!
And while we are at it why not the motorways as well
Think about it, when your at the airport and ur stood next to the plane waitin to go up them stairs, the planes are fuckin loud.
So think about standin next to 25 planes. Would it be that loud, BOLLOCKS
Think about when u here a plane in the sky, then look up to see it fuckin miles away. People (especially old bill) need to sort out their storys before shootin their mouths off like a fuckin international airport is gonna be built in a small village near you. This sort of crap winds the residents up even more n when they think about the noise, they will start comparing to planes n think, “yeah thats just as loud as heathrow”
Bullshit if you ask me:you_smart
Bullshit if you ask me:you_smart
I’ve been to raves near Heathrow which often happen because the planes make way more noise than any sound system (at least in a warehouse!) – no one complains about the music when the aircraft are already creating bare noise every 5 mins…
If you have some time check out this COOL website:

Rest-assured this is great entertainment!!!
Also, check out the following website I came across:

It will knock your socks off!
This was a complete load of bare shit by the Ob they wana get their facts straight and stop making out to the public that wot were doing is so wrong, i dunt think people actually realise how loud 25 jet engines would be, alot louder than any rig put it that way
i think that the decibels of 1 jet engine would stil be 2 much 4 a human’s ear 2 actually handle, whilst stood next 2 it.
So that gives an idea on how much they did actually bullshit about this
And ne wayz how do u juz look out a rig and say “cor ye i reckon that’l b about a 25 jet engine equivalent”
get me
I’ve got a video of a party held near Heathrow Airport – out of curiosity I also videoed a few planes flying overhead. On the audio soundtrack the planes sound easily as loud as if not louder than the rig..
Wikipedia shows a “discotheque 🙂 ” as 100 dB 1 metre from the speakers but a jet 100 metres distant as 110-140 dB (10db is the difference between an empty room and a room full of people having a conversation at normal voice)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_pressure_level
People are way too intolerant of noise anyway IMO – I’ve been to Malaysia which is far more restrictive than Britain in many other respects but people can stay up all night and make noise (and often various animals join in as well) but no one complains…

init, how the fuck are OB meant to know how many ‘jet engines’ the sounds ‘would be’ equivilent to? 25 jet engines would probobly be enough to make ur lungs collapse so i doubt that theyd stick that in a rig mate, OB always chat shit to make them look big and us look as scraggly and illegal as they can, so they can get fucked especially after 3 weeks ago in thetford.
i used to be an engineer at heathrow, after major overhauls we had to engine test them before flight. We used to wear ear plugs with ear defenders over the top of that, ive never heard an audiabe rig louder than a plane, concord had a special engine tesy bed in which a split garage would encapsulte the engine parts and send the sound up special chimneys. The high pitch noise from jet engines was what fucked up your hearing if you were too close with no protection.
