  • I am due to visit Syria in the next month. Should I stay or should I go.:crazy_diz
I reckon this could spread and syria will be dragged into it. The pictures on the TV really upset me. It is so unfair that Lebanon is getting demolished and destabilising the whole region. Beirut was just getting back on its feet after years of war. Support the arabs:bounce_fl :bounce_g:

the pictures on the tv are only the ones which make the news:you_crazy

try ringing your (country’s) embassy and ask them for advice and/or check around other embassies sites to see what they are saying:groucho:

i persoanlly wouldnt go there. i recon staying in this country and petitioning our government to withdraw support from the genocidal iraeli state. you will have more political clout, and will not be in such physical danger.

israel to me looks very similar to just after it had attacked . but the media and political consensus is so very different, it makes me worried. it looks as tho israel is going to get away with an expansionist policy that will see the genocide of many arab races, with full support of US and UK goverments.

israel has blatantly flouted geneva convention by bombing appartment blocks, shooting up motorways and destroying EU built bridges. who will hold them to account?

I don’t know what your ethnicity/ancestry is; but a Chemistry teacher going to a potentially unstable Middle Eastern country (particularly if they are implying they wish to become involved in “political activism”) may not look too good in the eyes of the security forces that control the borders of these countries.

TBH unless you have family/friends there or a really good reason to go to this country (looking more closely at your post that may be the case) then I’d stay at home or go to a more stable country for your holiday – remember every extra mile you travel actually adds to the demand for oil, and fuels the war!

fair enough then. Family ties are valuable so its worth the potential risk, and TBH Syria does not seem any less secure than Europe at the present time.

Go for it; but keep a close eye on all news sources (both Eastern and Western) and encourage your family to avoid potential “flashpoint” areas.

You may also be able to make sure you see relatives you have not seen for a while before its too risky to do so; and to start making plans to relocate your family to the UK or another safer country if things realy do get out of hand.

    Support the arabs:bounce_fl :bounce_g:

And how do you propose that I do that hey teach?

Arabs ‘clap clap clap’, Arabs ‘clap clap clap’???????????????????????

    Gouch on teach:groucho: :groucho:

Israel is lashing out in a totally disproportionate way today

Syria represents a bigger threat to Israel than Lebanon

so, you are less likely to get killed by an Israeli missile there (in Syria) than Lebanon

yes it is and to keep telling the other side to disarm is like a group of thugs giving someone a kicking and telling the victim that if they just surrender it will go better for them:you_crazy
