Police are trying to disperse around 3,000 people who have gathered for an illegal rave in a forest.

Gwent Police are working with the fire service and the Forestry Commission to try to break up the crowds at Wentwood Forest near Caldicot, Monmouthshire.

A force spokeswoman said officers were alerted to the “illegal gathering” at around 1030 BST on Saturday.

Officers were sent out overnight to stop and speak to people at the scene and take details of their vehicles.

Specialist officers and the force helicopter are at the scene.
Gwent police decided it was unsafe to enforce action under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Acts which allows police to force people to move on.

The fire service is also attending a fire on scrubland in the forest which began on Sunday afternoon.

Around 50 people are still at the scene of an illegal rave which has been taking place at a forest between Newport and Chepstow in south Wales.

Gwent Police drafted in extra help to disperse the estimated 3,000 people and around 1,000 vehicles at the illegal gathering in Wentwood Forest.

Officers plan to move those still left at the site on Monday morning and make sure no-one else gets onto it.

Four people have been arrested for public order offences.
Officers have also seized 10 large trucks containing powerful sound equipment.:cry:

Police worked with the fire service and the Forestry Commission to break up the crowds after they were first alerted to the illegal rave on Saturday night.

The Gwent force called in officers from Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire, West Mercia and South Wales police to help.

Supt Jon Burley said they had used “positive policing” to deal with the situation.

“There will be no reoccurrence of the rave in Wentwood over the Easter weekend so they (residents) can enjoy the rest of their Easter,” he said.
Specialist officers were sent out overnight to stop and speak to people at the scene and take details of their vehicles after it was decided it was unsafe, because of the numbers involved, to enforce legal action against those taking part in the rave.

        Tidy-up operation
The fire service, who were called in to tackle a blaze on scrubland in the forest on Sunday, and the Forestry Commission also assisted.

Doug Ellerby from the commission said: “We had thousands of vehicles in the forest at Wentwood and we’re expecting a huge tidy-up operation with litter and debris, there’s been a fire.

“We will have to assess the damage and it’s going to be a busy week for the Forestry Commission down at Wentwood.”

        :hopeless::hopeless:

:you_crazy how they expect peeps to clean up if they kick um off site, always gets me that, en all the reports contain gripes about the mess thats left behind,

hope every1 had a guuuuuuuuuuuuuud time !! raaa

I went to this party. Came back yesterday. travelled all the way from Ipswich! Its a damn shame they shut it down i was having a wicked night. Met loads of people.

I remember being told about the fire. I was told it wasn’t anyone there for the party. Apparently it was just people that came down from bristol to cause a nusence…but dont quote me on that, it was just what i heard.

I have Party Withdrawl. I dont get to go to them much. No car 🙁

Anyone that went remember talking to us guys from Ipswich? 🙂

squatjuice is warzone ‘cos of this party. “it was the norfolk ravers!!!” – “no it was the london cunts” etc. etc.

now i wasn’t there… but i have spent a looong time reading various accounts, and heres what i can deduce from the situation as a third-party, if ya like…

to be honest as much as i fucking hate the oppression against parties, there seemed to be a minority of very irresponsible idiots there.

for one, the parking – emergency vehicles couldn’t get on-site. thats a rule even i’ve read about countless times, and i dont drive.

secondly the fire. whoever started it doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near a party (presuming it was deliberate that is). and when the fire brigade were trying to put out the fire, some pricks were startin another one thinkin it was hilarious.

thridly, bottling the cops… many ravers got hit, for a start – and haven’t people realised it only antagonises the situation and makes things much much worse in the long run? you ain’t ever gonna win against the cops with force, it needs to be done through other means.

if we want free parties to be accepted by society, we need to be more responsible. it may be a minority – but it fucks it up. if the fire wasn’t started then the coppers wouldn’t have shut it down. they knew about it for ages before that happened, and were gonna just keep an eye on it.

i dont think the coppers were solely to blame for the party being shut down. it was the actions of an irresponsible few, if this aint happened the party would probs not have been shut down.

lotta respect to the organisers, the majority of ravers who just wanted a good time, the people helping with first aid, putting out fires etc. safe as, as long as there are people like this, free parties will never die.

To all the ravers who were at wentwood forest………We need to learn the rules if we are going to play the game!!
        DONT BLOCK THE ROADS
DONT LIGHT FIRES IN THE WOODS
DONT THROW BOTTLES OR USE ANY VIOLENCE TOWARDS THE POLICE
SEND REGISTERED LETTERS OF COMPLAINT TO THE LOCAL POLICE (THEY HAVE TO RESPOND TO A LETTER)
TRY AND STAY TWO STEPS AHEAD OF THE LAW

To the riot police……………………HOW DO YOU PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT? SHAME ON YOU!!!

        Sandy

Gutted I missed it, was working all weekend 🙁
