  • where i live there is a fully grown Horse chestnut tree it is about 40 foot tall . i love it .some new people just moved in today and when i bumped into them as i got home ,we introduced our selves and they informed me that this lovely tree was “coming down tomorrow” . as a part owner of the land i exspressed my disagreement ,they told me its cutting out their light . i pointed out there was only one very large branch causing them concern .does anyone know tree law ??

    whose tree is it?

it must belong to someone and AFAIK the decision rests with the owner…

also trees in some areas are protected (you would need to check with your Council)

thanks for links . no preservation order on tree .i will be out there in the morning . i am going to ask they delay it til all owners agree . if i had not bumped into them and broken the ice they would be carrying this out without informing anyone who lives here .its takes all sorts i suppose .

well it was “only” a major prune ! a bit severe some might say .anyway they have their light , and the trees by my place remain untouched .idont think i could live here if the same happened to the trees by my windows . its a bit like living in a tree house in the summer here .its gonna take years for the tree they lopped to grow back . ive never seen the flowers of a horse chestnut so close so often .inside that creamy cone are vivid reds and pinks that u can only see close up . im glad i had the chance to experience it

Glad you got to keep the Treeraaa

yeah thanks mate , i panicked when they said “it was coming down” .
