considering the recent events what with the police posting on this site, Why not split this section of the site into two. One part with reviews of free parties etc, and the other half a private members board not open to be viewed by the public or unauthorised members.. dont know really how you could validate members, but its just a thought what with the police obviously monitoring this section it sort of makes it a bit redundant. what does everyone reckon?
and there lies the rub
even if there was a private section, there cops could potentially seize the server and get hold of lots of information
just keep it off the net, basically. word of mouth is best
Well the info posted shouldn’t give too much away about the party,
i think any info posted in a ‘private’ area would still be at as much risk of beign viewed by the OB as it would if it was posted in the normal free party section.
There have been some posts regarding future parties on here that gave nothing away apart from the fact there is a party happening on a certain date, if the info regarding a future party is kept “shhhhhhhh” there should be little reason to worry.
If there is little info the police can post saying they are going to take action against anyone arranging a party, but which police force would have to do the posting?
A little thought and caution will go a long way
:bounce_ci
Sorry i haven’t been watching this site as closely as i normally do lately! What is this a about the police posting?
to validate people maybe authorise well known members? or people that have posted over a certain amount, then have them recomend friends or people you meet at nights out, free parties etc.. or maybe have people pay a donation? regards to the the police seizing the server so long as people dont post rig names, numbers or specific locations maybe it would be okay? just post party dates then the rest through pm… dont know if its really possible tho…read this re:the policehttp://www.partyvibe.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=24533&page=3
A site overtly planning “free” parties, particularly large ones, would be viewed as a site planning a medium level crime and those running it would be liable to scrutiny and investigation, and could be made to divulge info in Court.
Cops have a lot more surveillance powers these days and are more prepared to use it particularly due to the amount of drugs sold at free parties, the higher cost of the land/buildings that are occupied, and the criminal damage/violence/anti-social behaviour now occuring with connections to the rave scene.
OK people got away with a bit more initially but we’ve just been lucky for 10 or so years – the rest of society were then taking it on the chin, now they are fighting back.. the rest of society feel its worthwhile overriding the “free speech/human rights” argument and demand that the cops take action against a site…
also with places like Bebo and Murdochspace being used to organise gangs and gang violence the cops now have special units to track all internet social networks.
People couldn’t use their freedom responsibly when they had it so it got taken away.
The Internet is highly insecure anyway unless you use encryption software, Government and commercial organisations never transmit anything classified beyond “Restricted” or “Confidential” across it. Even Confidential stuff needs encryption and the keys passed by another comms method.
If you want more private and authenticated comms with a greater level of security use the normal voice telephone. Caller ID and peoples individual accents make it a lot more easy to identify who you are talking to, and to tap your voice calls the feds still need far more warrants/paperwork than any other form of surveillance.
In France(as in UK,I guess),they are some little secret sites, where you can only be admitted on a “godfather” recommadation…(hé,hé,theres an undernet, you know!!!).Even on those sites, the real infos are only given by PMs…(better being paranoiac than arrested!).
PV is now a large and viewed site, free parties have to keep invisible in order to stay out of OB and criminals reach…This site’s a great social network, not sure it should get in troubles while they are many other ways to “keep your ears on the ground”:groucho:
—Edit—I think i’ll stop posting,as you GL often give a better answer in the same time!!!
: ))
there are a handful of sites (which i aint gonna mention) where it requires you to state you are not in anyway connected to the police or law enforcement. i think it does this because normal coppers cannot state they aren’t coppers on the net or something?
even so, info aint just banded about, but it is more open to get info.
a sub-forum of here that only those who are like… known and have stayed here would be good, to stop the derbyshire police postin :crazy_diz
the “people involved with law enforcement can’t join” disclaimer holds no weight in law, and is more likely to make cops think there must be someone with something to hide.
a private forum would create a false sense of security, it could just as easily be infiltrated. all it would take is one person to be a bit careless, and not everyone in a party crew is a techie who knows about IT security.
IMO The only real way to get trust is for people to regularly meet in person in one place and share their ideas and views face to face.
Peoples mindsets and alliegeances can change, but on the internet it would be easier to hide this change in attitude than face to face (to infiltrate a group at this level requires a lot of training).
lots of systems have their own forums. i’m on quite a few. the most paranoid will only let you join the private party board if they know you personally, or someone inside can vouch for you. this is surely the only real way of making these boards secure – having face-to-face contact with the members. (bit elitist though, which is a bad side)
yeah there’s gotta be a balance between security and new people… parties are so on the low-down sometimes it’s a wonder any new people get into ’em
is this goin through the police’s heads dya reckon? sorta like, make rigs paranoid and withholding info, so it dies down new ravers?
people got to know about parties when few had mobiles and if you did they were analogue, in fact you risked some old boy with a radio scanner tuning in and grassing you up to the feds, OTOH but the cops kit was also still like “Life on Mars” so you could do the same with your scanners :groucho:
They did so by making real friends and socialising to find out where the parties were, peopel can still do this today.
there is always a “technology arms race” with activities like this, both sides put surveillance on one another – although in recent times the balance on line has been redressed in favour of the cops, as a lot of bitter ex-dot com types have become “forensic technology consultants”
OTOH if “james bond” high tech security worked, the govt wouldn’t still use paper documents or voice calls for its really secret stuff.
of course it is, to them its 17 years worth of crime that has gone unpunished, they would use any tactics possible. To them todays raver is tomorrows drug addict (and unfortunately there has been a lot of stuff going on to make the cops feel justified in believing this).

yeah, people can still do this today, but theres hardly the massive excitement of it that was in the early 90’s by thousands of young people in the country… half the people i know have heard of raves and would enjoy ’em, but they arent easy to hear about
unlike tens of thousands at castle morton
which to me is a bit of a shame, ‘cos yeah, parties don’t get shut down as much if they are smaller, but the more people partyin brings together the better imo
GL, do you think it’s time to tell them about the private board?
