  • FREE parties arent free to put on ….think of all the cost … the fab party last wknd i hear was a bit poor with the donations, costing the crew a fortune…….when the bucket comes round everyone should take a bit of cash to put in ..even if its only a £1..!!!….dig deep …these people work their arses off to bring you all a PARTY for the NITE….Respect is due……..!raaa :bounce_fl :group_hug

I agree 100%, if you can afford to buy tinkers, you can afford to help keep the crew afloat that are giving you the atmosphere and beats. Same with litter picking afterwards, if you know you’ve dropped 4 pieces of rubbish, pick up twice as many and clean your kharma!

Totally agree, when i was organising parties it used to cost alot to get the whole thing together and some nights when the hat went round it did feel like your efforts werent being supported properly.Anything we did make went back into the rig or was held back for the next weekends party. When the bucket comes round dig deep and show your appreciation people.

I can imagine it must be a bit like a forum like this and every other forum for that matter..

Costs money to run,lot of people do a lot of work for free to get things running smoothly,so we all can feel good and safe when we’re here..

      :hopeless:

Some years ago I used to help put on parties and TBH it was way more stressful than helping run this forum (or even my day job!)

At least in Europe, provided you obey local laws, you are very unlikely to get nicked for running an internet forum (especially as the resources to run one have been legitimately obtained via commercial business agreements)

I don’t agree with stuff like what is going on in London psy-trance parties where they charge a tenner on the door, but a couple of quid for the sound is small potatoes for the risks the people who put on raves are taking.

Getting nicked and a criminal record for parties (or worse, for selling drugs to fund them) might seem like a “robin hood crime” amongst young ravers but to the rest of society and employers it closes a lot of doors – not everyone is gonna be able to (or even want to!) put on parties for the rest of their days..

donations are all well and good like and dont get me wrong i fully encourage people to give but to be honest i never see the donations bucket make an appearence either that or i need to stop staring at the floor

at outdoor parties in SE England people kicked up so much of a fuss that people with buckets where getting abused and even cars driven at them, or plus there were instances of “fake” collectors.

so what happened is the “donations” were confined to indoor parties – actually to be brutally honest it turned into a “door tax”, as there was usually only one way of getting in. Was usually around £3 in the SE and £5 in London.

Once, at a 500 people strong party the bucket went round and £42 came back. Pretty dissapointing really.

that is pretty lame BioT, i know from when i used to help up north how much running etc these events cost but must comment on the difference between northern and southern parties, from donations to vibe etc.

i havent seen them, even on the indoor or ‘private’ parties i never see them. the rig i used to help with up north had it chained in front of the dj or in the rigs van therefore if you gave you got a nod or a handshake to show appreciation and thanks (of course while being watched to see were ya oliver twist hands were going).

out of interest, as i haven’t really been to either northern or southern proper parties (couple of small ones up ‘ere, but i wudnt call em free parties), what would you say the main differences are?

      i always give £5 or £10 if it’s well organised. if it’s crap i don’t bother

Mate im not that surprised at that, some weeks i couldnt beleive it,we certainly never did it for the cash.In my time ive been arrested a few times,we had our rig and vehicles seized, had countless very heated full on confrontations with ob,been beaten by ob and had various items of kit trashed by ob on 2 occassions and of course im sure all of my details are on there lovely database time and time again. And thinking back to the donations we never got! oh well wot an amazing time.

I will always pay a donation if they ask me for a donatioon or pound for the sound at the gate! but when i trn up to a party and they give me the choice of paying £3+ or not getting in it annoy’s due to the fact these are suppose to be free partys!

I know these partys do time alot of time effort and money due to the fact i’ve been planning on putting one on for ages but have lacked in all of the above!

But i dont think a free partie crew should call themselves a free party crew if they dont give you the choice!

I have only seen a donation bucket at one party, I emptied all my change out my pocket as they deserved it…………..

If they put on a good party i have no issues with parting with a little cash, a quid or two is only a can of beer or a bean. Not a lot really 😉
