OK I was travelling back from Lowestoft and just as I was on the train leaving the station,
I swear I saw the following..
that said I was absolutely trashed and was drifting in and out of sleep at that point, and I have recently been reading a lot of books and websites about Suffolk in the 1900s to 1940s.
Did I actually see any of that in 2007 or was it all a figment of my imagination?
Surely they don’t still use all this stuff in the 21st century? (might explain the sketchy train service I suppose…)
They still use that where I live but we are quite remote but were still on a main line to Manchester.
The trains keep shutting off here coz folk keep weighing in the cables off the line.
i read somewhere that london transport had to bring in engineers from india (who still maintain the british built railways in india) to fix signals and stuff on london underground because no-one in england knew how it worked any more
Nope, you weren’t wrecked, you did see it.
Actually, I’d like to change my previous statement. You WERE wrecked but you did still see them, they weren’t a figment of your imagination.
The railways are a national disgrace, really. Hard to believe we invented the bloody things!
On the other hand, we invented footy as well. 😉
and chinese food!
I worked in signalling maintenance and oh yes the old mechanical systems are still in use allright, not in many places though.Left the rail industry due to certain tests they do on your piss!
