  • Right pretty much i’m worried i’m fucking my ears up. I mix on my decks most days with the headphones right next to my ears and then stomp infront of massive rigs at the weekends!

I wanna get some earplugs that i will be able to wear whilste mixing and doing other things. I’ve tried to the cheap foam things and they are a bunch of bollox and make it hard to hear anything at all!

I’m willing to spend a bit on them so any advice much appreciated!

    I DONT WANNA GO DEAF!!!

ask raj, im pretty sure it was him that showed me the way to dj headphones which do something along the lines of what you want.

if it wasnt raj may have been Goodog.

if it wasnt neither of them then my memorys terrible and im sorry for a post which has lead you down trails with no success.

    🙂

    hey mate

there a couple of options depending on what you are prepared to spend:

custom made earplugs specially fitted to your ears [pretty expensive but worth it according to those who have them] Biotech has a link to them in this thread http://www.partyvibe.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=23063

full cans while you are mixing are one of the things I do [mine really cut the noise and I mix in the headphones anyway[tend to turn off or turn the volume of monitors right down] as I can

I wear earplugs near all rigs except my own one as a matter of habit

    Cheers for the advice mate!
Although the custom made plugs are expensive (£150) They seem like the only option if you wanna seriously keep you ears good for a DJ’ing career!

aparently there r some good ones in boots for a fiver
    hope its of some help

There are plenty of decent earplugs around for about 10/15 quid. They contain an acoustic filter that attentuates all frequencies by roughly the same level (as opposed to the foam ones which tend to muffle high frequencies).

I used to have a pair of these:

Fuck knows where they went to tho.

In terms of sound I don’t think there is much difference between musicians earplugs like these and expensive fitted ones (the filters used are often identical). The main difference is that fitted earplugs are a lot more comfortable (which means you’ll be more likely to wear them), and for a lot of people this is well worth the extra money (if I had more money and could trust myself with not losing them I’d buy a pair). TBH I found the Elacin plugs uncomfortable and generally couldn’t be arsed with them, although they are far better than foam plugs, and the xmas tree shaped plugs tend to be the best value for money.

It’s actually quite scary when u realise how damaging loud sound systems can be to your ears (one thing they taught us about in my first year at uni was hearing damage, and some of the graphs they showed us were pretty uncomfortable viewing.)

mmmm those look pretty tempting [ there are loads of interesting things there :)]

may try these as they look like my kind of thing
