New Most Potent Computer Virus!!!! There's a new computer virus that is being called the "most complex" virus to ever hit the Internet. Dubbed "Flame" this virus has infected computers mostly in the Mideast, including Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and others.
Since this virus contains 20 times as much sophisticated code as the Stuxnet, it's most likely a US military project. The virus itself is 20 gigabytes of code! It has appeared in sensitive government computers as well as those of individuals.
It can " can gather data files, remotely change settings on computers, turn on computer microphones to record conversations, take screen shots and copy instant messaging chats."
The Flame virus went undiscovered for years due to its sophistication. The US has not been victimized by this virus yet (as far as anyone is willing to admit.)

IT security flyers created for work I made these to explain to managers how we should keep our networks secure without going into too much technical detail. They might not be "PC" enough to go on Flickr but (from the things I see in security logs) are not untrue either!

USB killer now sold for £50 / €60 USB Killer, yours for £50, lets you easily fry almost every device | Ars Technica UK
Sends -200V charge through data lines (negative DC is bad, a while back I managed to spark a Raspberry PI I was running on just -24V to +5V inverter as the frame of the cheap cig lighter adapter (which was -24V) contacted an audio card with the frame of the audio at 0V and I'd ommitted the trafo to keep this from happening
These devices are openly on sale online, though not sure how long before Border Force / Trading Standards and other authorities restrict the sale of such items. Although they claim to be "CE marked" all that means is it doesn't risk giving a strong shock to the enduser, and its not illegal to put a CE mark on something which can be dangerous or antisocial if used wrongly, I (jokingly) put a CE (!) on my portable transmitter that I use for testing pager networks but if I really wished could monkey around with peoples remote control switches, put model aircrafts straight out of the sky though interference or even pop peoples car locks, luckily I'm an older and moe chilled out man nowadays so won't do any of that bad stuff
Most usage of this device (other than within an electronic test lab to test protection of USB circuits) is going to be illegal and immorral.
Could think of many scenarios - disgruntled worker in office/industrial plant or worse, a healthcare facility.
USB ports on some equipment can be flaky anyway; I've got a older digital camera from work in my drawer upstairs that was decommissioned as a surge came down the USB across the PE (earth ground) due to our sketchy electric supply and that knackered the USB connector (the camera still works if you physically take the chip out and use it in another reader)
But How long will it be before I end up physically stopping up USB ports on critical equipment at work (medical equipment often has USB ports nowadays( or ending up searching staff for portable devices?
It won't be long before folk end up in jail and/or others getting hurt...

US : Pets left hungry due to flawed IOT feeder TBH most pets belonging to owners able to spend $150 on this device are unlikely to be starving (they are usually only used when the animals are already overweight and the vet has advised the owners to reduce their food intake) - although I think its a greater animal welfare issue that people lock their pets up and leave them alone in the first place (and is probably why they get into the habit of overeating as a substitute for company/exercise).
I wonder if any cats/dogs worked out how to pop the lock on the feeder with their paws? (I've seen a few youtube videos of other feeders being hacked by the animals themselves!) :laugh_at:

BE : Belgium federal police declare Facebook Reactions as serious privacy risk I have also seen the actual article on the Politie website (in Dutch with a youtube video in French); will try and upload a screenshot as I don't want to link them to here directly for our security.
The risks exist particularly as Belgium is small; socially tolerant and its main languages (NL, FR, DE and EN) are widely spoken across Europe.
