from what you said about a local club in another post you might be closer to Yorkshire and their accents. I used to work for the Environment Ministry (Defra) and had to regularly call up Newcastle but they had these early VOIP links that sounded like a GSM with bad signal hooked up to an analogue ships radio; that combined with the accent differences often we had to use the Police/Nato alphabet for readng out info like user IDs or confirming bits of info. I remember one lad who had to travel to Reading (SE England) for a meeting being horrified when I told hiim the price of a pint and fish supper down south and that he wouldn’t have much change from a tenner…
