are you ready for some more links?

          i found some more…:crazy_fre

lets look on the bright side: at least your son is pretty young [my friend is over 20 and people are not really taking it seriously:rant:it took 20 mins to convince the dr that it was a real condition :rant:at least now he reads up on it i guess]

at least with sucessive generations the treatment seems to be slowly improving in some areas.

it was virtually unrecognised when i was a boy (or just being thought of as bad behaviour or rebelliousness) but raverbaby (and quite a few of my younger friends of his age) are increasingly at least getting some form of treatment, although sadly it seems often to be via drugs rather than changing education systems (which IMO would be better)

I also reckon the the media and lifestyles aimed at young kids is making this condition worse. Stuff like kids TV programmes where no item lasts more than 30 seconds; branded toys which are out of date within a few months, “dumbing down” etc, kids actively seem to be discouraged from using their minds to concentrate properly on things or think about long-term stuff.

I wonder if the long wait is simply because there are actually thousands of people being diagnosed with this condition; with other factors within society making it worse – and the public health services are actually being overloaded?

BTW it does seem though that both raverbaby (who comes across as a particularly intelligent lad) and myself are doing reasonably well in life so thats maybe some consolation. Not sure though if you want either of us as role-models for your son..

thanks for that GL and i agree that diagnosis is improving for new cases despite resistance

:bigsmile:and i am very impressed by raverbaby and how well he handles it; a shining example to others:bigsmile: also by your handilng of the problem is exemplary

wrt my friend it was never picked up when he was young and means that he has been unable to hold down a normal job all his life; there are often moments when he feels he should be able to do stuff but just cant get it organised and this makes him feel like a failure when in fact the reverse is true – when he is interested in something he is fantastic at it

in fact for years he has been told he should pull himself together because he is just being lazy; he is just lucky his partner is very supportive and loves him regardless. A less tolerant person would have given up years ago and it has certainly been easier all round when they realised that he very likely has ADD [he checks off at over twice the minimum level to require assessment!!; it has allowed them to seek information on coping mechanisms to help them out]

:rant:just makes me mad is all:rant:

          thanks for the moral support

              dont sweat it :crazy_fre

and if you are trying to do it in more than 20 min blocks be aware that 20 mins is about the max you should do w/out a break even if you are ‘normal’ to maximise your info uptake – funnily enough 20 mins w/ 5 mins break is easier for ADD people too:crazy_fre:crazy_fre

you will be fine; dont work yourself up into a lather over it

              :group_hug:group_hug:group_hug

set a20 min stopwatch or something:bigsmile:
