Don’t smoke pot on campus, can’t feel any real sympathy for the kid, the law sucks but it isn’t a secret law or anything, and on a college campus is a really dumb place to smoke weed, and to have it on your fucking desk…
when I was in Uni (over two decades ago now) liberal arts students were part funding their courses by selling pills (which were to be fair good quality).
Science Universities are often linked to teaching hospitals; so physical and mental health issues amongst students caused by lifestyle choices are quickly noticed. By the late 90s there were clampdowns on drug use and dealing on University campuses across SE England (I expect the same happened elsewhere) – but it would be rare for a student to get much more than a Formal Caution (like a US infraction) unless they were dealing large amounts and funding their courses.
some students from middle class backgrounds who were openly selling class A’s did get busted and sent to prison; but even then it is possible for them to transfer their credits to the Open University and complete their degree if they so wished. Whether anyone would employ them would be a different matter – having served prison time reduces your employability to about 33% irrespective of any qualifications.
Uni campuses may seem like “soft areas” but they are not anywhere in the world. This isn’t due to some govt conspiracies but simply because in many nations it is possible for particularly brainy youngsters to go up to University before they 18 years of age. They are therefore still children and entitled to all the relevant child protection/safeguarding laws/procedures in operation.
