its a way of life …
no bouncers … no bars … no plastics
… plus the tunes are bangin 😉
i love ’em i do x
To me, a man who has attended a few parties:groucho: , and run a few more…I always lliked to say that the F, R, E, and E of the Free in Free parties means:
Freedom
Reigns,
Enjoy
Everything.
This was back in the days of 94/95/96 when the door poilcy took a subtle shift from donations to fixed prices (albeit cheap) – some would say to us on the door :laugh_at: “how can you call this a free party – you just charged us to come in?”.
When the fixed fivers rate came in, we were doing venues with anything up to 12 rigs:weee: , plus squatters and door crews involved. You couldn’t get that value in a club, so not that many people were too bothered.
The free in free party certainly doesn’t mean no cash – I’ve spent serious grands on throwing parties over the years.
“free” is what you make it. And don’t forget, the original free people (60’s band) lost their lives to drugs.
Besides which, I always found that being too munted was never the way to run a party (current K-head crews should take note) and as GL will remember, I never really encouraged my crew to get too twatted either.
Do what you like, even if that is drugs:crazy_diz , but most importantly, respect the scene, the venue, the crew, the OB and the other punters.
Freedom Reigns, Enjoy Everything!!!raaa
It definately has a wider significance for me. The people you meet there would never be like the people you’d meet in some normal club. What i like about free parties is that music is no longer a commodity. The general loved up feeling (Whether it be substances or not), i feel there’s something much less atomistic about free parties, society has become so isolated from each other and sometimes i feel people don’t even know who they are anymore and what they’re capable of. I feel there is some link between free parties and this, even if it be an obscure one.
it didn’t stop ’em though :laugh_at::laugh_at:
nah, seriously though I see what you mean but in those days the drugs were stimulants, decent pills/MDMA and those blue speed pills, it gave you the energy to get things done and a bit of real euphoria..
towards the end of the 90s there was K but it would be one or two lines done in a night rather than the main drug..
nowadays a lot of crews seem to be on a mixture of K, (sometimes) coke and alcohol and they don’t even seem to be enjoying themselves when they put on the parties…..
AGREED! =D
I’ve never been to a free party, but what I thought one would be like has been proved to be right by you yay, am now excited to go to one soon hopefully! Forest ones must be cool, pretty background, freedom, and lots of magickal people yay! =]
xx
I can’t understand why people take K in a club… it’s really fun if you’re with a few people, maybe in the woods or a field later at night, or if your sitting in your house with a few friends on a comedown… but in a club it’s just way too intense, I had a horrible time taking it in a club because the smallest things confused me and I was tired and incapable of dancing and talking to people without feeling odd – and ended up being sick because everything seemed so heavy. But then I suppose that was my experience. But I can’t imagine it to be much different to how other people may experience it? I certainly wouldn’t organise a party whilst on it, the most annoying thing is either having to sort something out, be somewhere or organise something whilst under the effects of K. It’s much nicer to just relax and things on it. But yeah, that’s a judgment made on experiences of my own.
I can’t understand why someone organising a party would want to take K.
Fair enough if you’ve got a free mind, don’t have to worry about anything, and certainly don’t have to sort out and organise things.
But despite those things, I still wouldn’t take it in a club. I did it once and never again, I found I was incapable of talking to people or dancing without feeling strange, and I was eventually sick because everything seemed so intense and heavy. It’s the worst thing to have worries etc going through your mind whilst your on it, because 9 times out of 10 you to have a bad time because it’s too intense and panicky, or just can’t make sense of it and fuck up.
It’s good somewhere with a few friends, maybe in a field or the woods, or even better just sitting at home with them just mellowing out and taking it after a hard night out.
But then, that’s my take on it through my own experiences. But I wouldn’t have supposed them to be much different from other peoples?
I don’t think it’s all about drugs etc.. I haven’t been to a free party yet, but I imagine it’s about interacting with different people, the music, dancing, the pretty location, and above all that the general atmosphere… and the freedom, feeling like you have no rules no boundaries and are free with a group of like-minded individuals =].. must be like being in a dreamland yay!
ah grr double post (above) how do I delete the first one?
*idiot*
What post do you want deleted? There’s a number in the top right corner of each one…
there’s different ways of taking K. if you take tiny bits continually, you get less confused (like a k-hole state). but i agree – its not a partying drug, its something for later on when pills stop working
i dont think it’s all about the drugs, but a significant aspect of a free party is having the freedom to do so, imo.
I beleive free parties are about way more than just getting fucked, ive been involved for 16 years and it allways has been way of life to me.Its a celebration of unity, freedom and life itself, the getting twatted is just a nice bonus. ~Eat em up yum yum~
