ive just bought myself a massive truck/motorhome im hoping to travel round europe in. im hoping its going to work out cheaper and easier for me in the long run because i’ll be on my own time… no “ive got to get this train and this flight”… and will only have to spend money on diesel and food, accomodation and transport all in one.
ive found whilst planning for a massive trip the hardest part is saving the dosh, its easy when your goal is really far out of sight to just say sod it im going partying this weekend and im rinsing my pay on drugs and booze but just get yourself a savings account – one that you cant instantly touch (the post office does them) and just any money scrimp away and eventually your goal gets closer and closer!
a friend of mine travelled round thailand for a long time on his own, he just booked his flights had a rough idea of a route he wanted to travel round and just made it up as he went aong, he said hostels always had rooms and for like a couple of quid a night… its a beautiful country
consider dangers when your on your own, especially in places in south america, you need to be very concious of certain places you go, in some countries its best not to veer off main roads, but as long as your keep a head full of common sense and know your information before you go out there you’ll find cultures full of the most spectacular views and the warmest, lovliest, most interesting people.
consider learning some languages before you go – local libraries and colleges sometimes do evening courses, bbc website has good learning programs, or borrow cd roms from the library and copy them.
