  • This wasn’t just a street brawl- it started in a licensed premises; but one of our towns bigger clubs… it led to many injuries…

So why didn’t this club get a closure order? Why only the smaller venues?

Why does my mate’s night get attention when there has only ever been one person ejected for bad behaviour a year ago who went peacefully?

Are cops/council frightened of being sued for loss of revenue or something?

    Quote:
A YOUNG man was fighting for his life in hospital today after a street brawl in Ipswich.

The man, who is believed to be from Claydon and aged around 20, is currently in the intensive treatment unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital with serious injuries.

A spokeswoman for Ipswich police said a fight is thought to have broken out in the toilets at Fire and Ice, in Tacket Street, on Saturday evening between two groups.

That later continued outside The Old Rep, in Tower Street leaving several people in need of hospital treatment.

She said the area would have been busy at the time and there were likely to be several witnesses to the incident who she urged to contact police.

Several people are thought to have needed hospital treatment although it is unclear how many were involved in the disturbance.

Police were called to the scene at 11.30pm and at least two ambulances are thought to have attended.

A spokeswoman for the East of England Ambulance Service Trust said an ambulance was called to a public house in Tavern Street about 11.35pm after reports a man was unconscious.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm in relation to the incident.

The 20-year-old, from Ipswich, has been released on police bail until September 26, pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Dc Ann Baker at Ipswich CID on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

i know what u mean, big nights tend to go unnoticed in that sense, couple of yrs ago, someone was stabbed and killed at pams house at the UEA, they put a barrier around the blood and the night continued……..still to this day pams house hold events in the same venue. Cant think of anyone who has died off the top off my head in the past few yrs at a smaller liscenced event…..

    Thank you GL

Your have given me a hook im gonna bite, Now that my event has been a target for the poilce when i do EVERYTHING above the law.

Im gonna talk to these reporters and kick up a right stink

Im fighting for my right to party along side LEGAL ravers!

This is not an isolated incident by any means. The venue i run is a small independant affair we very rarely get any trouble because the people that come here come for the music and the music only. Despite our low profile the old bill hate us, I reckon its because customers and staff alike all look a bit wierd! There are other venues in town which shall remain nameless ( if you live near southampton you know where i’m talking about,) which have an on site mobile police unit every weekend. I’m not kidding it’s own fucking nick. In the car park. The amount of stabbings, beatings, rapes robberies and drug offence’s at the venue warrant the laws attention, but why not save the rest of us some council tax money and just shut the place down? I’m starting to get paranoid thinking that the police really do hate the independants. But why?

    Money.

I don’t think TBH the bobbies are that bothered (unless its an ambitious young one who wants to join CID) – but the local Police Authority (who controls the purse-strings and isn’t just run by cops) is now entitled to recover “free market rates” for policing costs of local events. The Council is also entitled to do so.

I think the authorities hate the big venues as much as or even more (TBH I think they would rather have us all in bed by midnight like how it used to be in the “good old days” that social conservatives refer to) but they know they can make more money from the large leisure chains by charging extra PEL fees to recover the costs of the policing and ambulances etc

I remember a commercial rave promoter in the 1990s explaining their costs and pointing out that fo a large venue event the Police got 3 times more money than even the headline DJ’s!

They don’t care if people are hurt or killed as long as the costs are paid for. And the more trouble that happens, the more the anti-fun brigade can justify clampdowns and rolling back of late licenses etc as a “failed experiment”.

On sunday one of my team was off work, he came in monday and his daughter had gone to a wedding reception, after everyone went to Liquid in luton for a boogie. completely unprovoked a girl shoved a wine glass in her eye and in now looks like she may even lose her eye. WTF.:you_crazy

    :hopeless::hopeless::hopeless::hopeless:

nasty – best wishes to her and her family:love:

best wishes to her and all who know her

This sort of thing makes me despair for the future, as the people involved in this violence are often themselves young…

worse than the licensing problems and unfairness is the fact that so many people are prepared to lash out and use extreme violence these days; at any social gathering – in front of witnesses, and if they go to jail many do their time without a bit of remorse.

we get all paranoid about “terrorists” being trained in other countries but there is real hate is on our streets and in our communities that knows no ethnic or cultural boundaries and can erupt at any time..

yet when people do something positive like play music in a small friendly venue they get bare grief from the authorities that claim to make “society better”

BTW cops were in a legal venue in Bedford (High Voltage) that weekend because of “links with raves” ….

oh just passed Zest on Princes Street 10 minutes ago; 1 Emergency Ambulance already in attendance outside…. :you_crazy

    :you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy

whats really sad is Zest (at least from the outside) is an excellent venue; a converted maltings, its only neighbours are other industrial premises and the fire station; it could be a really good venue but a combination of poor management and a fighting culture on the street turn it into a war-zone

I’ve heard its up for sale as well; which would indicate it isn’t doing that well…

excuse my spelliing was a good club had some good events there, bit commerical every now and again bit still things like trance the most commercial when it was KARTOUSH

Used to be a fairly good club when it was holloywoods. No doubt you were in attendance at some of the club UK’s Doolittle?
