Looking around it seems this contains terpenes and not alkaloids like mescaline as I expected, although it is uncertain whether the actual psychoactive components of this plant were conclusively identifuied. Some terpenes are definitely psychoactive and reports on erowid seem to confirm this but it appears there are 2 varieties of this plant, one psychoactive and the other not
