I’m on the blag to enlist help digging and building some compost loos. I’m afraid there is no payment but can provide beautiful spot for camping and food(veggie). Also you will have the proud priviledge of christening them.

Any offers greatfully accepted.

natural toilets built in a variety of ways – most commonly a hole in the ground with a shelter and seat above it and a bag of earth or sawdust to cover up any solids…..[try googling them or bio-loos]

just googled them, seem like a really good idea, but what kind of people would be using them if its outdoors in wales… or have i got the wrong end of the stick?

ahh yeh that makes more sense, I was envisaging lots of random loos up a mountain side!!

it would be nice to see these at festivals and things, at mainstream festivals I always pick the bushes over the loos!

Some mainstream festies do have them but H&S can be a bit twitchy about them which is why you dont always see them.

Every feti/ party should have them as afterwards you just fill them back up with earth. It all just rots away.
Much better than porta loos as they don’t get blocked up, don’t smell as much and are free apart from a bit of wood.
Locally there is a portable toilet in a trailor that people use, so all you need is to dig a hole park it over the top and convienence and no hedges woods covered in loo paper or shit.
If you haven’t time to build them come down and use them on the Aug bank hol.

We used to have a compost toilet for our dogs, was the most vile thing imaginable!!

there were compost loos at sunrise, i think there better than portaloos, they dont stink as much either

Had one on a perminant traveler site I lived on years ago. there fine so long as there built propperly.

The ones we had were dug into a banking and made into 2 concrete chambers then a conrete floor over that then a wooden shed the chambers were vented ect. The backs of the 2 chamers could be removed to acces the broken down waste to use the compost. each chamber was used for 1 year then left for another to break down. They were dry compost loos using ash, sawdust & floor sweepings.
