  • CZECH THE BRUTALITY
    6/8/05

This is an open invite to all who wish to show their solidarity and support for our friends and comrades on the continent who witness an unbelievable amount of police brutality at the recent czechtek.
In light of these recent events we have decided to show that we will not stand for it.
We will not be forced back from a European border just because the Czech police don’t like the way we look.
    It is discrimination!
It would not be tolerated in Britain or any other EU country so why should Czech police possess these powers.
Nor, will we be falsely beaten back by un-named animalistic officers whilst attending a LEGAL event.
No body deserved to be killed for expressing themselves through music but sadly this happened in Czech.

We will make a stand against this.
    It will not go unnoticed.
Your voices will not go unheard.

    Your attendance is vital.
Things will never change if our voices are not heard.
Next time, the person getting killed could be YOU!
DO NOT LET THE CZECH POLICE GET AWAY WITH THIS!

IT MAY LONGER BE THE CASE OF JUST FIGHTING FOR YOUR RIGHT TO PARTY,
AT THE HANDS OF THE CZECH POLICE IT WAS A CASE OF FIGHTING FOR YOUR RIGHT TO LIVE!!!

not sure if i’m missing something – but where is this demonstation taking place??

    thats a good point…

OTOH perhaps the demonstration should take place in all EU countries, by the act of people holding events in their respective countries to show solidarity with those in Czech republic.

the incident affects all of us.

Czech Republic is not supposed now to be some “east europe soviet satellite state”, but a modern EU nation.

The Czech Prime Minister claimed the Police action was OK because similar action is taken against “problematic” raves in other EU countries such as Great Britain, France and Germany.

If you look at rave history or even recent events you will see that this is indeed the case.

Although territorial support group [TSG] police officers (a more accurate name for “riot police”) are slightly less violent in Britain compared to other countries, this is only because they have more control of their activities and less access to weapons such as flash-grenades, also very few cops can carry firearms (it is a special case in the moment in London because of the ongoing terrorism and civil conflict).

UK cops have been violent in previous years (there are many reports on this board about this!), and those in other EU countries are as bad as the CZ officers.

Latest reports from Prague claim that CZ police have actually arrested some of those present at the protest marches against the CZtek action, and have shot dead a dog (presumably a pet of one of the marchers).

A worrying development – for CZ and Europe as a whole, such events are more reminisent of the bad old days of the 1980s when Europe was a much less stable place.

We must all show solidarity with the Czech ravers.

Even a licensed festival in the UK can be stopped at the last minute if the council withdraws its agreement, and at that point the authorities could authorise the use of TSG cops and “appropriate force” to clear the festival goers from the site.

This incident could repeat itself anywhere in the EU.

I completely agree – to do nothing is to say that this doesn’t matter
    any suggestions…….

Hi, I totally agree that awareness concerning the recent scandalous police brutality in CZ needs to be raised. From what I can gather, talking to friends both Czech and English, and reading reports it was like hell on earth.

However I wasnt at all surprised by the events, the most recent Czech prime minister publically expressed his views on Czech tech after last years event which did’nt pass entirely trouble free. The Czech republic government are way behind ours (though I’ve always thought ahead) in terms applying licensing laws, and the police themselves have allway’s been uninterested in intervening in partys where people are just having fun and causing no problems, (they are CJA FREE) This Prime-minister is aparantly more hardline and obviously lacking in any sort of knowledge about what the event represents, no doubt the order for the riot cops to move in and use as much force as to stop this event ever taking place again came right from the top!

When dance music culture first arrived in CZ, in 97 some of my friends were at the forefront, and moved to Prague along with there sound system, they were very warmly recieved and used to just turn up at parks in the town centre, or at the sight of the former Stahlin statue (now a huge metronome) and fire up the rig in the middle of the day with no problem from the police. I think that now CZ has joined the EC they feel that they have to pull in line with the rest of the governments and adopt a less tolerant stance.

My party crew have been visiting friends in Cz for a few years and we have DJ’ed at various free party’s and organised events. I can honestly say that I have never heard of or experienced any problems with the police, amazing venues are easy to come by and the party vibe is still fresh, that’s why this whole situation is so sad and dissapointing.

We did a two week road trip last year to CZ with our system (amazing experience) and are planning the same again in a couple of weeks with a few party’s allready arranged and lots of mates coming over. We are now crapping our pants in case the boarder police see a van full of speaker’s and refuse to let us in. It is one hell of a mission just to be turned back…

Keep your fingers crossed for us

    Rugkutta soundsystem..
