do you think he has a less edited or original version or would he have just given radio 1 the material to sort out??
he had little control over the end product
the missmash of sound bites came from a lot of long interviews
i expect it’s on the floor of colin’s editing suite
For anyone who missed it, here’s an MP3:
http://createhive.co.uk/rave_documentary.mp3
33MB, 47 mins long.
Believe me, there’s a LOT on the cutting room floor. Shame about Colin fucking Murray raping this so hard. Nice to see they used so much Dahmer though, you just know he’s going to be going on about it for weeks now.
totally missed it,is it on their web site?is it worth listening to?seems to be mixed opinions apart from collin being a tw@t which is a fair comment.
I liked Sankeys saying Djs shoudl come and play there. We know clubs dont touch DJs that arent known, or who play music they think isnt commercial, or else they want a big fat fee for their hire.
Also the person saying they stopped going to raves cos some1 fell down a quarry, they should stop going out at all, after all, some1 fell off a wall at Fat Boy SLims legal party, and people always getting crushed at legal festies/concerts.
So called “legal clubs” – I dont think many follow the limits for how many can come in, sometimes they’re so overcrowded you cant move. Theres no one there to check the numbers every night is there.
Well said Tekhan. Good points.
Subby: I wouldn’t say the prodigy are an integral part of the free party scene but neither is queen and I’ve heard them at a few raves.
I like to think that free parties are not tied down to certain styles and trends and are free to shift between genres and sounds.
hehe – thanks :weee:
True. Serious incidents can and do occur at both licensed and unlicensed events; they are a natural consequence of bringing together a large number of people, some of whom may not know how too look after themselves or may not particularly like one another and wish to settle scores at the social gathering.
But when people get hurt in accidents or even attacked and shot dead in shops or the town centre you don’t see calls for the shopping mall to be shut down, and the blue lights only seal off as much of the area as they need to to get paramedics through and to preserve the scene ….
you don’t see people saying “close down this dangerous shopping centre” or saying “large supermarkets are a magnet for crime”
with larger legal venues, the only difference is that money is changing hands to pay for the ambulances, cops etc that are required as a result of any trouble (the cost of this is passed back though in ticket/door entry prices!)
Also councils can charge a premium for PEL fees.
This country is full of nimbys who never wanted the late night economy in the first place and many of them occupy positions of power within society, they feel justified in trying to get as much money out of licensing as possible.
Every license for a late night venue music venue appears to be given out grudingly, with bad grace and prejudice that it will be a magnet for crime and disorder, it clearly seems that the desire within the Council Chambers is to see the venture fail.
Our government is still living in the Victorian era if not worse; young (and not so young people) are not to be heard and should only be seen on CCTV..
Then they wonder why people end up taking matters into their own hands, despite the risks of arrest, confiscations etc.
Fair Play … Pete (the journoligist) did indeed call round and did apologise in advance for the editing, and for Colin (who apparently really isn’t happy he’s got lumbered with the documentarys in his show!!)
I believe he was dissappointed at the final product and would have liked to make a more in depth program . Shame.
Still – it wasn’t damning and there were both sides of the arguement presented …
One thing is for sure though (i think ravers and fuzz would agree) – Colin Murrey is a twat !
Oh and just a mention again – Fuck Radio One – Check ILLFM.net from 8 GMT tonight 4 Black Mass Plastics (Thorn Industries) + DDR (SUF) and definately no documentaries !
Yeah well i guess it could’ve been worse. And I gotta agree that that Murray bloke is a complete twat.
I wasn’t holding out much hope for a “documentary” which TX’d on Radio 1. Aunties “populist” channels are notoriously dumbed down these days.
OTOH had the documentary been put on Radio 4 there would be loads more opposition from farmer types, middle englanders etc and I think the subject was covered a couple of years ago on Farming Today anyway.
Perhaps the content already obtained should be re-used for a more-indepth project on 1xtra?
thanks for info will check … have a good wknd ….x
Just listened to this “documentory” on t’internet and thought I should make a couple of points:
1. Collin is a 2@!
2. The whole thing seemed a bit like a pissed off indi-kid doing a show about the rave scene – still playing tunes from 89-92 which really don’t represent today’s underground music scene but instead just show his total ignorance of the rave scene and electronic music through the ages.
which brings me on to…
3. I love all those old tunes because they remind me of when I first got into raving, but what with Radio 1 being a music station, I thought it would have been nice to hear a bit more music from today’s scene instead of Primal Scream and Pulp (aren’t they both indi acts from the 90’s?)
4. At least they mentioned the rave scene on Radio 1 and (fair play) they did give both sides of the debate, even if they were both snapshot views put together so the masses can build up some uninformed opinions.
5. Yes, I could go on about the good answers given by the raver who was being interviewed (sorry didn’t catch his name) and the usual number of stereotypical stories about ravers diving off cliffs and shitting everywhere before leaving the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty looking like a landfill site, but I would just be preaching to the converted so I won’t bother!
6. Colin is a 2@
Hello,
Don’t think it’s been listed already so here’s the podcast/MP3 on the R1 site:
