There used to be a TV programme years ago called Hawaii 5-0 about the cops there; it was quite surreal as unlike most US shows they tended to actually arrest criminals rather than just shoot them and both cops and villains were multicultural (often Chinese)
Years after it stopped being made the Thames Valley cops were locally known as “5-0” and before 101 was set up used phone number 0845 8 505 505 for non emergencies – I once got nicked for something minor (reconnecting the electric for some homeless people in a squat) and bailed but when I turned up the receptionist couldn’t even be bothered to notice I was there (I could just as equally have been a victim of crime) so rather than just leave and risk being breached ended up having to report myself..
M2HB control room operator : “Hello, Thames Valley Police”
Me : “I wish to report the whereabouts of an offender who should be answering for bail”
M2HB : “Who is this offender and what is their location?”
Me : “Have a look at CCTV of Reading Police station front counter, you will see him there” :laugh_at:
Soon after the receptionist finally appeared; followed by the bobby who had nicked me (who was very sheepish – he thanked me for turning up and explained the charges had all been dropped – I should have received a letter but somehow this had not happened (TVP knew exactly where I lived as they had an intelligence file on me for many years)
