Judging by that fact that .midi is an audio file type, I’m going to assume this is like an MP3 player, no?

Naa, its like hardware you connect to your PC to help manipulate sound and midi for use in programmes like Traktor, FL, Logic etc. etc.

midi isn’t audio it’s a message system … it’s basicaly a language that 2 diferant audio devises use to comunicate. A midi controller basicaly controlls other midi devices. It’s a keyboard you plug into your pc and when you press keys it’ll play notes on your software synthersizer off your pc.
