for door charges round here about £2-£3 is normal for smaller venues.
I wouldn’t count too much on selling nitrous as the authorities are getting wise to this – it is actually illegal to sell the stuff as a recreational drug (but not for catering purposes) and its been a lack of enforcement rather than a legal loophole which has led to it being “tolerated”
Eventually the cops will be asked by the MHRA (medicines and healthcare regulatory authority) to clamp down on it like how they are doing with the “legal” pills. It doesn’t help that people have been getting stupid with it and suffering health problems or even managing to asphyxiate themselves!
Incidentally it looks like the hall parties are now being shut down or at least discouraged as the venue owners have had problems with anti-social behaviour, vandalism of venues, disturbance to locals due to noise/traffic and events going on beyond the licensed (or tolerated) time.
From monitoring local news in the area its not just “killjoy cops” but a backlash from the hall owners.
Cops can overrule any license on the grounds of “excessive drug use in the venue” or “risk of harm to under 18s” (there are a lot of younger teenagers who attend them in East Anglia)
They are now increasingly using CJA powers to clear licensed venues if there are outbreaks of serious violence.
Security and/or attracting a decent crowd has to be a major consideration now as it only takes one low life to fuck up an event by stabbing or shooting someone. The scum usually go down due to the amount of witnesses present; but increasingly they tend to take the venue and the night down witht them…
