  • If we go by the mental statement released by the hackers I’d say they’re North Korean lol.

Sony Pictures hackers make terrorist threat against opening of ?The Interview? | Ars Technica

Bruce Schneiers thought’s on the matter.

I give his thought’s a lot of weight but all still just thoughts ATM.

definitely Asian (its a bit like an Engrish version of the challenge warning flyer in red Chinese characters that gets posted on the door of someones house in kung fu films before a big fight starts) but cinémas and night time venues have always been threatened by those who disagree with them; often the threats are not empty either. My Fillipino colleagues said there are loads of “Korean” uni students in big posh flats in their country but most of their assigments are hacking of some sort..

in the 80s I read an excellent book called “Going to Blazes” about the work of the London Fire Brigade and although tame by todays standards; they had some very graphic pictures of what happens when a small nightclub/cinéma full of people (but with defective/sealed fire exts) is deliberately set on fire by a disgruntled neighbour. You couldn’t even make out the facial features of the charred bodies; they were that well done.

I have a lot of respect for Bruce (who I also read about from back in the day) and agree with him 100% with regard to private emails; but I’ve had to force open several email boxes of former (and current) employees at work (with permission and authorisation); to prevent security breaches. I always warn people at work that not all emails can be sent in encrypt due to technical limitations of many devices; and the sender and receipient will always be in clear otherwise the message cannot be routed; and that they should never put anything in a work email they would not want their boss to see or to end up in Court or the Press.

Also telephone calls are routinely recorded and monitored (mostly for audio quality to identify bad reception spots with DECT phones or overloading/clipping/distortion – as my work has to dial nines fairly often for ambos this is again authorised). if folk want “privacy” they should either use their own personal device on a mobile network they pay for or do it at home (I do give them impartial advice about privacy/encyrption and its pros and cons).

Before this job I worked in Government Service and until the economic depression they took infosec fairly seriously; albeit some of them were stuck in the WW II / Cold War mindsets- not so much the tech side as thats still valid but they couldn’t work quickly enough to authorise things and that is how a lot of security breaches occur. As for Sony; their management are a bunch of complete muppets; its as well the Pentagon or those running power station etc aren’t quite as sketchy or whole swathes of the USA would be in ashes (and not even through “terrorism”; just their own local stupidity).

Thanks for that GL, informative as always 🙂

Looks like the FBI are full of shit when talking to congress. Now details on the malware.

State-sponsored or not, Sony Pictures malware ?bomb? used slapdash code | Ars Technica

This is a nice thought. I might hate Sony for not much at all but I still wanna see that film lol.

Hackers say the film can be released now, with edits :laugh_at:

Hackers tell Sony ?The Interview may release now??with edits | Ars Technica

North Korea have evolved from hackers to trolls.

BBC News – North Korea seeks joint probe with US on Sony hack

Thanks to North Korea I get to watch the interview now :horay:

Fuck you Sony but I aslo bet Kim Jong-Un is well pissed off about this as well lol.

All that fucking hassle for that film.

Some people are just fucking insane.

More data on the Sony hack (which I haven’t read yet) and gives more solid suport for who the potential attackers were/could have been.

    https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2014/12/more_data_on_at.html

OMFG, apart from who the fuck does America think it is but who the fuck do they think they are?

We have tons of evidence, but that’;s classified. Like the arrogant twats haven’t got it wrong or flat out lied too often already.

This was a hack on a civilan corporation that probably pays a lower rate of tax than the average dead person, anjd they arer gonna snctionb a piss poor country with millions starving to death because of a fat nutjob who got pissed off about a shit film.

US sanctions North Korea over Sony hack and classifies attack evidence | Ars Technica

Even the sanctions imposed are likely do do less than or equal to 0.

“The US is refusing, however, to unveil any evidence that North Korea was involved. The administration said that “independent experts don’t have access to the same classified information as the FBI.”

No, because everyone else has to work with actual real not made up bullshit.

Expert looking into the FBI’s claims. Unfortunately he probably doesn’t have top secret security clearance so he couldn’t discuss the alien visitors who happened to be leet haxors who recent;y visited Pyongyang.

You’d have to be pretty detached from reality to not think NK is involved but slapping the guilty tag on him with secret evidence that 3rd party experts aren’t allowed to see is just bullshit. They started a war with Iraq over WMD that were made up at best and they KNOW NK has nukes and yet they pussyfoot around this lunatic. He may well have nukes but does he have any oil, think that’s what’s holding Team America back here.
