Like I say, I’m not anti Judaism, I’m just anti ‘how the Israeli government goes about its business’. My answer to solve the conflict is:
If you can’t learn to live together, them none of you are fit to live there.’
I see it as childish and petty, ok its holy land, I get that, but for Fuck sake, its been what? 800 years since the crusades and still nobody can just say ‘ok, you have this HALF and we’ll have this HALF.’
I think I’ve found that it’s hardly a religious debate (most Israelis I know are secular even. The religious holidays are more tradition for these) but a political one. One that came about due to unfortunate circumstances caused by persecution of jews in the western world during most of history, but especially growing anti-semitism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. That, coupled with British mismanagement of their mandate in Palestine, and the UNSCOPs failure to do anything useful.
I just find it annoying when people oversimplify the issue. It is one of the most complicated political situations that has happened in history, and to reduce it to “bomb Israel” or “fence in the Palestineans” is overlooking the issue. One one hand you can’t just kick people off the land they were living in for ages, but you also have to understand that you can’t tell a group of people who a mere generation or two ago were being murdered for their lineage that “hey guys everything’s fine don’t be dicks.”
That said I think the conflict is rather childish and I do hope that it’s resolved soon, though Hamas certainly don’t help matters and neither do the Israeli government at present.
