I don’t get it…

seems like whoever doing this is PM’ing randoms, rather than waiting for people to request info?

OK It may be a real party crew rather than anything sinister or a way of getting mobile numbers for spam/prank texts – but I can’t see the point of doing this myself in this day and age – thanks to trolls, spammers and haters no one trusts even private messages or email any more, unless they have definitely requested the mail to start with.

this blag doesn’t work anyway, its been tried years ago – before the net people tried blagging acid house parties as “private parties” so some councils made even large private parties licensable…

if the party is in a location where the owners do not want the party to be there it will get busted anyway. it all depends on good location choice and not gratuitously pissing off the locals by noise, bad parking or rubbish/vandalism.

plus not everyone who goes raving is able to be constantly online…

if you’re in a crew you’re better off just passing details to people you know and can trust who then tell their friends – either by physical or electronic methods – you could still get a good turnout and hopefully friendly people who are there for the right reasons..

OK.. I think i’ve worked out what is going on here…

out of curiosity I logged into an SJ account (not under any screen name I could be recognised by) which has never made any posts on the forum…

there were two messages there, one from 2005, another more recent one, very similar in writing style.. there is no way whoever send them would have known who was who at the other end of it though..

I think the people sending it are legit ; I can see what they are trying to do – but its a case of not even close, definitely no cigar, not even a low-quality counterfeit cigarette smuggled in from SE Asia..

There is no way you can tell that every user on any public forum is is the sort of person you would want at a rave unless you’ve had some sort of interaction with them – They may not be cops but they could be the sort who would cause trouble at a party

Bear in mind also there’s nothing stopping Farmer Giles (or his son) signing up to any of the rave boards trying to get info as well and then passing on what info they get to the feds or even taking matters into their own hands. Ditto with journalists or even just irate nimby locals with time on their hands.

This is far more likely than cops doing deep cover stuff themsleves as they tend to lose officers that way to the lure of drugs and parties :laugh_at:

OTOH there are still plenty of enthusiastic people wanting party info.

There are people prepared to drive 200 miles each way to find a rave….

A bit of friendly interaction with people you can trust to spread the info by word of mouth can easily fill up any rave in the country…
