quite some folk have suggested I should become a teacher;and I am actually trusted at the local Catholic school (I cycled there to return a lost ID-card a sixth former had mislaid) and didn’t trigger off a stranger alert; but I am not sure if I would be able to teach those kids anything useful; other than the amount of booze and cigarettes consumed by 5 nuns in SE England woudl fill up two full isotainers; or that it would be perfectly acceptabe to meow with your cat and bark with your dog following the doctrine of St Francicsus of Assisi.
As I am safeguarding cleared for all ages as I get older I might see if I can teach them basic electronics and how radio communication works; as I could get the kids to wind the coils used in this equipment as it is fiddly working with fine magnet-wire at my age and I prang my fingers on the sharp ends of this wire (the kids would be more agile).
Freeloading on childrens labor, niceeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Although I am of part Chinese ancestry I’ wouldn’t be expecting them to make hundreds of the things (it is usually only a single coil on a ferrite core you need on the antenna connection to a HF radio), many kids are now genuinely interested in the “old style” stuff and it was TBH no worse than having (at age 7) to go to the petrol station and help Dad fill the 4,5 litre containers of paraffin (kerosene/mazoet) and haul one back home as we had not got central heating.
Even in the late 1970s a lot of British people would be horrified at the sight of this but it wasn’t that heavy and you felt like a big strong man doing it.
Or at age 16 for my Saturday job having to haul about 50 litres of Guinness about for the nuns out of the store room into the sisters shopping trolley; as I was the oldest male in the shop – although there was another lady who was older she was Muslim so that would be haraam (although it wasn’t strictly legal for me to be serving them and if the sister didn’t turn up by 14:00 the manager would put all the under 18s on shelf stacking duty as it usually meant the smartest of the 3 local bobbies was on patrol and would often do a licensing check……)

My hypothesis is that preferences for certain music types will predispose us to taking certain recreational drugs, i.e. ecstasy and electronic music for example. I am controlling for the sensation seeking personality type to see if there is still a significant effect once this factor has been removed. If you like I will post up my dissertation once I have completed it in April 🙂
We would love for you to post your dissertation 🙂
