yes mate, in ipswich
Ironicially Suffolk is actually a really big county (compared to Berks and Oxon where I used to be based)
but most of it is farmland
There only seem to be significant populations of young people (i.e people below age 40) in Ipswich, Felixstowe, Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft (maybe a few in Needham Market as well) – the middle aged farmers and old landowners have pushed up the house prices and held on to their ancestral seats and there aren’t many jobs for youths in the rural areas (they now tend to go to immigrants who are cheaper)
when I go cycling I rarely see anyone below age 50 in the rural areas amd the village shops etc in many areas have disappeared (I guess the people who live in the houses there just peer out of their net curtains and think “whose that Asian chap on the bike? is he one of those chavs? better call neighbourhood watch before he tries to nick something”).
and out of all these young people only about 20% of them these days are active ravers (I guess a lot would like to go to them but are frightened about what they hear and/or don’t know how to find out about them)
so hardly surprising all the ravers in this area eventually end up knowing one another 😉
what a bloody good statment
so who is gonna come and support the cause then people,
Good tunes, wicked artists and of course its a free party!
Wicked venue with a 12k rig and good booze at a decent price
its something I feel very strongly about
much the same happened in Berks/Oxon where I used to live – the youths would be forced into the city/urban areas from beautiful countryside into urban ghettoes; and because the olds forced up the house prices there was no way even when these young people settled that they could afford house prices.
I see younger people forced out of the nicest part of the country; then their own elder relatives moan about “breakdown of family/community etc”
And perhaps one reason why raving in Suffolk is a “small world” is that few people can actually afford to do it for more than a few years (people also start familes younger etc and once you have kids IMO everything else must take a back set as you have to provide for them)
people are scraping around for money to find the rent/mortgage payments ; jobs are becoming less secure every day more and more people seem to be working weekends, shifts at stupid hours
so time for enjoyment becomes less available and there is less opportunity to take risks with your
life or spend time not working (employers have ways of weeding out the “overhedonistic” or those who aren’t “committed” at time of recruitment..)
Wicked venue with a 12k rig and good booze at a decent price
barring major disasters I’m gonna be there 😉
Less than 1 week to go until FLABBERGAST! It’s gunna be mental and what a line up!
All this for free!!!! Decor, 12k sound system, great atmosphere, wicked DJs and a great crowd of ravers!
Bring it on!
Oh and some free giveaways I think!
feel free to put this event on our calendar 🙂 I would do this myself but I don’t know where the best version of your flyer is stored…
Yep is gonna be a few supirises in store and giveaways
cheers doolittle, miss sunshine and crew for a brilliant night and weekend; even if it didn’t all go to plan (was fucked up about people spreading rumours)
The silver star has NOT been raided (and is a very good pub) – why do people have to spread these rumours and fuck up others’ good work?
One of the older barmaids nearly did ask me for ID but relented (I take that as a compliment TBH at my age!
but still it was a really good atmosphere and had fun at the house party afterwards….
No, it ain’t been raided but Mick – the owner has been done on possesion twice, bit silly keeping his stash behind the bar. I lived in old stoke for a long time and it was my regular for ages, even used to pop back there when I moved down here mind you part of that was due to being in the pool team. Haven’t been there in ages but always was a good laid back place 🙂 How did Flabbergast go?
was good fun 🙂 – met loads of new people as well; and a lot of effort had been put into the decor…
was a shame people were put off by the rumours – I still enjoyed myself though…
Yeah, I think it susrvives coz it ain’t in the town centre and despite the fracas that tend to be private anyway, draws little attention though it got a bit on top when we first started using the back garden for skinning in. Mind you this time of year, half of stoke used to have a lovely whiff of bbq and greenery. I think people get put off by the area too, at the end of the day Station Street and Burrell Road ain’t got the best of reps…. you don’t happen to know Dave Mann by any chance, used to do Elevation or any of the Xenial crew of old?
unfortunately not – I’ve only been here since March (moved from Reading in SE England) – only recently had the chance to meet people. There seems to be a good crowd of people who like raving but everyone seems to have grown out of it by their late 20s and just goes drinking or has calmed down because they have kids to look after…
