Police urge locals to help crack down on illegal drug-fuelled raves during summer months.

Residents in Newbury are being urged to help a crackdown on illegal raves over the summer months.

Thames Valley Police has asked for help in a bid to tackle raves, which they say cause noise disruption and attract drug users.

The force issued the warning after shutting down a planned rave in Oxfordshire on Sunday.

The event, which attracted about 300 people and 100 cars, saw eight arrests for drugs offences and a sound system confiscated.

Sorry … i probably should have done that 🙂

I am looking to reply to the reporter who wrote this …

can someone give me a hand through pm’s to do so, its just my writing skills are not very good and i want to put my point across in a mature, intelligent way … any help would be top

    🙂

seen it all before – but there’s nothing good about this kind of publicity

from what I heard it started off well but more and more crews joined and they didn’t agree on a finish time and those what got their rigs took ignored TVP’s “advice” to finish by lunchtime (and to be fair TVP do tend to give you a chance if you do this)

dunno if you were partying when two crews proper rinsed the ridgeway a few years back but that was what brought it all on top and got people ASBOs etc..

its a propaganda game, you can never expect the cops to blatantly let you “get away with it” because the locals don’t agree, but if you are seen to be closing down at an acceptable time everyone can actually end up being left alone..

Yeah i was just kind of getting into the party scene around here when the Ridegway was over-used …

TVP are generally good, not many problems with them at all … apart from the usual ‘good cop bad cop’ but thats with all police forces.

my reply to the reporter was going to ask if they would consider doing a story from out point-of-view btw to anyone interested NOT replying saying ‘f*** you, ya bum bandit” etc etc …

hahaha good minds think alike, read this today in the newbury and was gonna make a thread about it, but u beat me too it

yeah i went down for the morning to this one, and the police came in (from what i saw) at about 9, heli about 11, then came down hard at half twelve, good rigs genny kept on going off and breaking everytime i went up to dance, welll annoyed me, hope everyone left alright, pity about the confiscation

some blokes wolf whistled (doesnt look very good at all, and adds the the yob look really) , i told them we dont bite, and would of offered them tea (but unfortuantly never had any) and to chatted about todays top issues, they declined

I heard this mentioned on one of the local radio stations on me way home from work.

This is on the BBC news site as well:

    Quote:
Police in the Thames Valley are warning anyone planning to hold an illegal rave that they will be prosecuted.

Eight people were arrested when about 300 revellers descended on Scutchamer Knob on The Ridgeway, near Wantage, Oxfordshire, at 0230 BST on Sunday.

The force helicopter was brought in to help disperse the crowd who had brought about 100 cars and a coach. Officers also seized two sound systems.

The eight people were held on suspicion of drugs offences.

Insp Pete Downing said: “We investigate and assess all illegal raves in accordance with the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act.

“Police officers gathered intelligence and evidence to pursue prosecutions after the event. “I would encourage the community to report any unlicensed events early to allow us to disrupt these illegal events before they begin.

“Our intention is to minimise disruption to the local community by stopping loud noise from revellers and preventing large amounts of traffic coming into small villages during the night.”

I think some of them facts maybe slightly wrong to be honest….

As this is from the police website in the news section:

After local officers had monitored the situation, we seized two of the organiser’s sound systems at midday on Sunday (15/6), which resulted in the event shutting down.

TBH I’d say chat about it all you want here (within reason) but just keep schtum to the mainstream media

sometimes its better that those facts stay wrong

it often at least makes it look like TVP closed down the rave quicker and looked “harder” than they actually were which is what you want the local yokels to think

I’ll be quite blunt about this, there isn’t much of an argument to support free parties in 2008.

If it was the 1990s you could claim it was “celebrating the countryside” or some hippy stuff like that especially with the anti-bypass protests of those days

nowadays as MrAHC mentioned in another thread its often loads of max power types (me and my mates always had a good laugh at some of them grounding their lowered motors on the ridgeway or getting wholly bogged down but after mocking them we’d all go up and help them push their cars to safety)

also there are now regular licensed late night events all across Newbury, Oxford and Reading, so the only reason many people go free parties today is so they can do drugs without the bouncers or feds giving them grief like they would in town..

Wow didn’t know that went on at raves. Sort of makes sense now in a stupid twisted way. 😉

i did work experience at my local newspaper

the chief editor was mint, he was a party head and liberal and like your average member off here really.

he wanted to do sports journalism however to work himself up, he had to start doin local rags

and local rags meant he had to right real conservative shit about drugs, young people, blah blah you know what i mean

he said it was a means to an end, and eventually he’d be writing sports stuff for major newspapers

it’s what put me off journalism – he didnt have these views, he was liberal, yet he had to write the opposite. i dont think i could surrender my principals tbh

yep same here, wanted to move into media production from engineering at one point in the 90s or become a crime reporter but couldn’t handle having to do the right wing spin…
