is this really still the case? someone like Pete Doherty would have got away with more 10 years ago, (and I think the britpop lot did) now such celebs are being constantly stalked by papparazi, exposed as fairly pathetic and dysfunctional individuals and judged and villified, even by other drug users. there is far more media scrutiny of celebrity lifestyles than ever before.
its not just “poshed up pricks” but normal members of society, including people our age and some who may even have once been ravers who are turning against us. these normal people may not create the law but they help reinforce it every time they pick up the phone and dial 999 because they don’t agree with a rave happening.
TBH I think the real toffs don’t even care as they are doing more drugs than what we are.
As recently as 6-7 years ago raves weren’t seen as major social problems or crimes, despite the fact more happened and they were bigger. Now it seems they are being lumped in with the same yob activity of pissheads etc…
After July’s “riot-rave” in Suffolk, one which was in a remote forest and caused little problems other than a bit of noise, a poll in my local paper still showed that half the locals wanted more action against raves [even after most of my mates had voted for “raves not causing problems!”] This was despite it clearly being spelled out in black and white (and some photos) that 100 riot cops from 3 forces have shut it down. My local paper isn’t exactly a “toffs paper” either.
One comment on the report (in response to all the people saying the rave was OK) said
These are the attitudes we are up against.
the problem with places like this is everyone is preaching to the choir – those who don’t support free parties are hardly likely to post here (although they may look for any info they can use against the scene!).
Its as much a “hearts and minds” battle and I fear ravers are losing this at the moment. maybe things can change but I don’t think there are easy answers.
