  • im new to the party scene, and im really confused about how people who host free partys cant ask the permission of the land owner, or know someone whose wiling to have it on their land, or go around the neighbours and apoligise for the party that is happening and make them reassured, instead of them getting pissed off then ringing up the bacon and them coming down hard on everyone. i might be being especially nieve, can someone straighten this out who has more experience than me

    peace

Its a fair question, i have to admit…:hopeless:

have been involved in a couple of parties with TENS and we’ve had to stop the music at 2 or 3 am, which is ok, but not what you want, really

have had landowners permission plenty of times as well, but that doesn’t always stop the cops turning up.

but a well organised party is one with a well chosen location that is unlikely to cause much disturbance. we live in a crowded country tho, and sites like that are hard to find

plus there are plenty of people who don’t give a shit if you apologise, ask permission or anything else, they scream down the phone to the cops that their lives have been destroyed if they can barely percieve a kick drum, when the wind gusts in their direction, with their window open

have a look around the site, basically, there are loads of answers to your question, dating back years

ive helped host before, ive spoken to loads of organisers before, i currently dont help organise but i do dj free parties. ive had a few years experience and to be honest what youve noted is actually part of it for some organisers the going against the law, the not needing permission and the secret planning and carrying out of the party. free parties have been around for a very long time and i think the one of the things which makes them so special for me is that there are no bouncers, bars and fakes. you no where you are at a free party, everybody is there for the same reason … to fu*king enjoy it. for me now dj’ing a party is great, better than any club, pub or house ive ever played because im in a field, barn or warehouse with the greatest people ever and again, your all there for the same reason.

many smiles, loving parties since the age of 15. Digital Artery raaa

Permision to be on the land is all well and good, but if the buzzies decide they want you off then the fact you have the landowners permission to be there counts for nothing.
As Glo says you need a well chosen location that is unlikely to cause much disturbance.

having permission or even owning the land yourself counts for nothing

true – landowners have been prosecuted for using their own buildings for (normally commercial) unlicensed raves (or anything else unlicensed!)

most councils have all sorts of laws about what you can and can’t do in certain areas..

also in England (and I deliberately say England here as its slightly better in the other UK countries) ownership of and access to land has been jealously guarded within certain families and social classes, plus there has never been a real acceptance of a late-night lifestyle in some areas

well we almost always get the owner’s permission, in fact they usually call us up and invite us to do a party on their land. last weekend we did a 40th birthday for a farmer, we were there for 3 days, the pigs showed up but they didn’t stop it… proabably showed up because they know him and he’s dodgy as fuck . but it was a wicked party and he didn’t mind that his lawn was completely fucked and his house covered in mud. fair play he was a dude even though he asked me to get my fanny out for a pound when he was pissed. i slapped him. he apologised the next day though. err thisis all irrlelvant really…

TBH I think a lot is due to cultural differences; there has always been more tolerance of music and partying in Wales compared to England..

I used to work with quite a few Welsh people (accountants mostly, hardly the most rebellious people!) but they still loved their music and having fun, even the older people

OTOH friends of mine have tried to get permission in SE and Eastern England but the farmers are worried about a backlash from their neighbours and/or getting sued if something goes wrong – the NFU also discourage them due to the perceived risks and tell them stuff like “you will lose your subsidies”
