I’m not against celebrating the death of an enemy and have unrepentantly done so against a personal enemy on learning of their demise (by an overdose) – however it makes practical sense to do this discreetly and not blatantly invite reprisals from your enemies friends and family, no matter how much you might hate every one of them. I certainly wouldn’t cheer in the street and sing God Save the Queen!

Just thought i’d share a warning i got on Facebook earlier -about a virus. (OMG – not on fb surely not )

“WARNING: there is a video circulating around Facebook of a BBC video of the killing of Osama Bin Laden, supposedly made by US troops. It IS a virus!!!!! Spread the news because it’s circulating fast!!!!DO NOT OPEN !!”

Who knows if this is a genuine warning . . . but personally, i wouldn’t open that video file anyway. I mean why would i purposely set out to watch someone being killed??!! I didn’t feel any joy on hearing about this, i was too busy wondering how long before his supporters retaliate, and how, and how many more innocent people will die :hopeless:

I remember my dad saying to me when i was a little kid – Never argue about religion or politics, that’s how wars get started . . .

sinner thinks he’s tired of this shite now…as he put religion in box where trolls, lord of the rings, santa claus +++ is allready put

unfortunately I don’t even think the war is about religion any more. Religion is a secondary factor. The real war is is a bitter, raw conflict about resources, it is world war III and it is escalating now.

Even work colleagues who are in senior management positions and don’t believe in conspiracy theories agree with me when I say this, and part of my job is to prepare for emergencies (resillience/contingency planning) as where I work peoples lives depend on telecommunications, supply chains etc.

Many British soldiers are more intelligent than many realise, fully aware they are fighting for oil but because England is much more dependent on private transport than DK or NL they are willing to fight. They don’t even hate “muslims/arabs/brown skinned folk” as such but just want them to roll over and sell the oil cheaply. But of course the Muslims here who see their native countries being plundered or perceive them being recolonised as oil trade routes are also willing to fight back.

OBL was in fact a spent force, the only reason for USA killing him particularly at this point is to boost Barack Obama’s power amongst the hawks, to take back control of the special relationship by diverting the world media from the false optimism of the British Royal Wedding and also the traditional workers’ celebrations of May Day, and also to show the new Muslim activists in the Middle East “who is boss”, as the last thing the USA want is a moderate social democratic Islam which demands a fair price for oil and trades with China etc which is what is happening as part of the revolutions in the Middle East.

I think we need to consider the possibility he was just a figure head, and he had higher ups puilling the real strings. Now I’m no conspiricy theorist, but having a puppet to detour all assassination attempts, and act as a public speaker, recruter and figure head, while the real leaders plan attacks, ambushes, manage resources is a good idea. A new guy could step out of nowhere and keep the whole thing running, or even take al queda underground and plan new attacks under a new guise if they have ulterior motives.

Hey Mungo, it’d be something like this: http://bit.ly/iFq7wD but no artificial colors or flavors lol

i think he did actually die, i’ve looked past all the conspiracy theories now. and i’m glad he’s dead, if he was who he was portrayed to be. you have to be pure evil to be the mastermind behind something as atrocious as 9/11. either that or he obviously had severe psychological issues or someting.

i’m just worried now about reprisals because i’m flying out to america at the end of july and back in august 🙁 i don’t want to die, i’m paranoid enough on planes.

its the American way (its happened in other conflicts) but it means if they ask for sympathy or help due to the floods/droughts and food shortages that are affecting some bits of the USA they won’t get it – especially since the impact of these is also due to the “American way”, the valuing of competition over co-operation/consensus and private business over the public good.

However many Yanks bittterly hate their own countrymen who are different from them, but due to having lots of space, resources and bare guns they are perfectly happy to live that way for the moment and don’t want/need sympathy from outside….

i don’t think this is a bad thing at all. if george bush died, those who are against him would probably act in the same way, just like the libyans celebrated when al mewotsit was released from prison. what bin laden (apparently – and i’m pretty sure it’s true) did was atrocious. nowadays it’s who can kill the most of the other side’s civilians and not just the soldiers who have signed up to fight, and he wrecked so many innocent people’s lives. so i’m glad that he’s dead and for the americans, who are much closer and more involved with the issue, it’s definitely a reason to celebrate.

The killing of civillians has always been part of war – we bombed residential towns in Germany in the 1940s, they did the same. Bugged conversations and other info gleaned from prisoners of war on both sides confirm that many soldiers thoroughly enjoyed what they did, and lived to their old age without repentance or remorse.

English folk also celebrate the death of enemies or the fall of their businesses (I have done (two separate occassions)) but in a more discreet way. My other point though is the overt celebration inflames the enemies once more and creates a spiral of revenge seeking, wherever in the world it might occur.

There are still American folk who would celebrate if Obama took a bullet like JFK or MLK, because of his skin colour as well as a variety of rather bizzare conspiracy theories.

I am hardly surprised the Yanks are celebrating – but it of course increases the risk of reprisals. I don’t think your flight will be any more unsafe than it has been in recent times – but there will be more and more annoying, intrusive and paranoid security procedures to keep it safe.

well pre-WW1, war was generally about soldiers, not really about civilians. war was fought on a battleground, not in cities with the aim of wiping out as many civilians as possible. maybe it is wrong to celebrate death, no matter who’s it is, but i would certainly be celebrating if 9/11 was more of an important issue to me. maybe you’re right about inflaming enemies.. but it’s nothing they wouldn’t be doing if george bush had just been killed. the thing with the war on terror and between the western would and the middle east.. i actually can’t ever see it coming to an end, ever. i can see libya and syria etc. coming to and end but just not this war, too many people too deeply involved, too passionate about their views and too many clashes of opinion, and the way “war” is conducted now has changed, even since 1945. even with withdrawls of troops from all of these countries, extremists are still going to be intent on the mass-murder of civilians, for one reason or another. i don’t think those few will be satisfied until we’re all muslims who are oppressed under sharia law.

and you have no idea how much your comment just put me at ease.. ^_^ i guess it might be MORE safe, they’ll probably have a few extra measures in place. and i don’t plan on flying anywhere near to new york.
