  • This teenagers party which got a bit out of hand (earlier in the year) in an Oxfordshire vilage was reported as an “illegal rave!”

    Quote:
COMPUTER expert Dr. Nigel Geary has blamed ‘cannabis culture’ for an all-night illegal rave that wrecked his Henley home.
Dr. Geary returned from a week in America to discover his St. Mark’s Road home in ruins after teenagers broke in and held a drink and drug binge on Valentine’s Day.

Around 30 revellers partied from 7 p.m. on Saturday until the following morning. They helped themselves to all the food and drink in the house, sprayed walls with printers ink, ruined carpets, damaged furniture and electric appliances, broke down internal doors, raided drawers and stole cheques and credit cards. The cost in terms of damage and stolen property amounts to well over £10,000.

Neighbours reported seeing youths who ‘looked about 15’ drinking and talking loudly in the street. Some were even picked up by their parents from outside the house.

Dr. Geary said: “This is not the first time this has happened – a mansion on Harpsden Way was trashed in the same way just before Christmas. These kids find a house that’s empty, word gets around, and they all turn up. It happens at the end of term and in school holidays.

“They act like animals. They use a lot of cannabis and they don’t seem to know what they’re doing – it’s a cannabis crazed riot.

“There is a culture now. These kids come from good families and they go to good schools but they want to hang around and fool about with cannabis. It seems to me that almost every teenager in Henley is using cannabis, and the police don’t seem to be doing anything about the dealers. The Government down grading it is just nonsense.”

Dr. Geary is still uncovering the extent of the damage. He said: “They have trashed the place. They drank all the alcohol, including about £200 of whiskey, which I’d collected. The carpets have been ruined throughout, they took printers ink and sprayed it everywhere, they smashed open the door to my bedroom and forced open drawers.

“They took my daughter’s violin, threw computer components in the trash – they even ripped apart the Hoover.

“All the carpets will need to be replaced, the walls repainted and I’ll have to have the locks changed. I feel gutted – the house doesn’t feel like mine any more.

“Initially, I thought it had just been kids having a party, but there were burglaries as well. Credit cards and cheques that I had locked away were stolen. They took an expensive watch, several house and mobile phones, and about 20 DVDs.

“We’ve got a couple of names already and the police took finger prints and removed the evidence of drug use. They’re taking this very seriously.

“We want adults who came to pick up their children to come forward. Parents should know what their children are up to. This is the second house in three months that has been virtually destroyed ? they have to be stopped before this happens to someone else.”

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “We were called on February 16th when the owners returned and we found £7,500 worth of criminal damage and items of undisclosed value stolen. We are now investigating.”

Fuckin ‘ell. That’s terrible. All the things I’ve got up to over the years would never compare to actually breaking into someones home and trashing it.

He was my Dr when I lived in Henley you know, he’s quite a nice guy.

“”They act like animals. They use a lot of cannabis and they don’t seem to know what they’re doing – it’s a cannabis crazed riot.

I think his comments about cannabis are unjust but I can’t blame him for feeling bitter – I know that I’d feel pretty bitter if that had happened to my house.

Having lived in Henley for many years I know for a fact that cannabis is the least of their worries.

I think there is a real misconception about the kids (teenagers?!)……youths in Henley. Everyone thinks that its a real affluent area (which it is to an extent), but not everyone there is loaded, it has its less affluent areas & problems just like any other town. Its also a small town where everyone knows each others business and with very little to do if you’re too young to go to the pub etc.

Not that that is any excuse for the sort of behaviour reported. I grew up in a tiny village in Cornwall – my nearest friend lived about 2 miles away, there was only one bus a day through the village & both of my parents worked full time and I didn’t go round trashing stuff. I guess attitudes (and respect) is changing.

    God I sound old!!

But of course. Illegal raves get held regularly in un-suspecting people’s houses.

As for a “cannabis crazed riot”, i’d be suprised if a bunch of stoners could manage organising and participating in anything more than a trip to the corner shop to get some munchies.

He’s a medical doctor as well? Must be very brainy then – according to his company website his doctorate is in computer science!! Either this is the case (or two docs have similar names) or you and lots of other people in Henley have been telling your medical problems to a software techie 😀

Henley-on-Thames is listed on chavtowns! I know exactly what you mean about the surrounding area as I (mis)spent a lot of my youth in the surrounding areas after returning from London when uni went pear-shaped..

That level of house-trashing is definitely out of order though 🙁

Its hardly suprising that during winter season the warehouse venues are trashed despite there often being homeless squatters holding them for us (and doing door duty) who live in the place on the off-weeks.

Last year the trashing has been so bad even the squatters didn’t want to to stay in buildings after they have been partied as they feared TVP would nick them for the damage 🙁 )

I was certainly mischievious as a teenager and attended (or gatecrashed) some of these parties; me and my mates would sometimes do stuff like scale flat roofs, move stuff into random places to freak out the house owners (but never nick or damage anything); but we knew when to stop and later on in life found more constructive things to do.

one favourite trick was shutting off the power to the building in the middle of the night and putting the house into darkness for a bit.

15 years later I do exactly the opposite 😀

Aaahhh, maybe it was someone else then – a similar name, or perhaps even a relative (Henley small town incest!!).

Can’t help thinking alchohol might have more to do with it than cannabis.

But where’s the headline in that?

Ultimately it also involves a complete lack of respect for others
