Thank you General Lighting, ModeRaTor, for shighning the light on this Scandal of the Nuclear industrie, (here comes the science bit).

All Nuclear plants discharge the alpha-emitting, actinides, namely – the plutoniums, amercium and curium. Nuclearreactors emit tritium from their fuel elements, as a by-product from the fission of Uranium and plutonium Nuclear instalations, are responsable for by far the greatest source of of tritium in the enviroment.

Tritium though, a radiocative type of beta-emitting hydrogen nuclide, does occur natrauly. This is as a result of the cosmic rays of the earths atmosphear. This phenominam is visible in light emissions from the Northen lights, (AFAIK,As-Far-As-I-Know) Ultraviolet and X-ray Radiation are best seen from space as the Earth attenuates or absorbs most of these emissionsin the atmosphere.

Radiation may be passed to the air we breath, food we eat and water we drink.

All Nuclear reactors emit tritium from their fuel elements, as a by-product from the fission of Uranium and plutonium. Advanced Gas Reactors (AGRs), disharge larger amounts of tritium than from other reactors in Britton.

Tritium does not readily diffuse through the magnox and zircalloy fuel clading of Magnox and Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs), though it difuses readily through the stainless steel cladding of AGRs. With both Magnox and (AGRs), the main activation source is lithium impurities in the graphite moderators. Nuclear reactors also produce tritium from the neutron activation of deuterium, lithium and boron in the moderator, coolant and control rods.

Sadly, still larger Large quantities of tritium have been released from the treteroise, diabolical and dangorase manufacturing and testing of nuclear weapons. Tritium is a beta-emitting nuclide.

The Radioactive hotspots listed in my previouse articul, do not only GLOW from Space, but indeed, not that I would recomend it for Health reasons, do acturly Glow at Night from Earth behind these establishments, as I have seen it (with discgust) with my own eyes !

The River Severn is a particularlie Radioactive water way considering the radioactlerly charged isotopes to the consentration of water. This has undoutedly been to contributed by not just the continouse routinedishcharge of radioactive waste into the river from those Nuclear power stations still in operation along the banks, but also a Nuclear authuarite reported leak from Hinkley point, A pipe leak at Sellafield, and an uncoverd Nuclear Weapons Factorie in somerset which enrichise Plutonium for Nuclear Weapons and creates, as all Nuclear weapons factories do, large quantities of tritium as a waste by-product, which is discharged into this relertiverly small islands (UK) water ways. Incerdently, Nuclear Weapons Factories tend to show up on Satalite near intensly bright spues of Radioactive discharge, like that at Chaplecross plant in Drumfriesshire, scotland, which makes tritium for nuclear weapons. I belive to be contributed from the Radioactive discharge of these expensive poluting, diabolical, inhumane, undiplomatic factouries which contributing to an international arms race and making us a rogue state from
the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty, are no deterent from their corupted purpose of creation, Wepons of mass destruction and unbiessed mass murder of any one unfortunat enough not to be invited to a Nuclear fall out Bunker!

It I by no cowinserdence that clusters of childhood luekemia may be found around nuclear establishments, despite I fear of those claims of the Nuclear Comissioners, who have obviousely got their intersts on somthing other than the health and prosperitie of the world.

I mean nowerdays, when we whatch the Weather forcast with satalite imiging, we can expect to see a pollen count and even somtimes a pollution count, though why not Radiation warnings?

It would be an interesting concept to have weather pressenters say “and those in the west country can expect to be tritilated by rain fall by 1.5TBq/a!

One would have thought though, at least that these slowly degraiding coastal radioactive hotspots would at least be made visible for all to see, when we watched the weather forcast, to decide wether to go to the beach or not!

(Interestingly enough though, the newspaper, the Independent, did show satalite pictures where the visible radiation from space was visable, like that visible in the River Severn, on a front cover story, when that Oil refining depo expolded in 2006, near Essex).

Sadly aswell contemplaitingly, wildlife such as Plankton, Algee, Plants, fish aswell as our own inland coastal crops, pastures and livestock, do not have much choice as to wether to moove away from arears where humans create polution from our unenviromentaly-freindly, power crazed, power production.

The Chernobyl plume for instance is thought to have deposited some 20,250 curies of radiation into the Irish Sea alone in 1986 and was responsible for aproximatly a 100-fold increase in radiation in the Irish Sea shelfish population in just a few days!

Their is Radiation all around us, and there dose apear to be getting more, from a varity of sources, and a variety of different levals of Radiation, of the Radiographic Spectrum. Mobile phones, computors, satalites and Tv and Radio masts for instance all emmit Electro magnetic radiation. Those who live close or work by a Nucler Power Station, can expect to be Radiated with Gama Radiation the same class of radiation responsible for a Nuclear explosion like that of the destruction and sufering witnessed when nuclear bombs were droped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The gamma rays are the most dangerous form of radiation emitted by a nuclear explosion because of the difficulty in stopping them. Gamma-rays are not stopped by the skin. They can induce DNA alteration by interfering with the genetic material of the cell. DNA double-strand breaks are generally accepted to be the most biologically significant lesion by which ionizing radiation causes cancer and hereditary disease. A study done on Russian nuclear workers exposed to external whole-body gamma radiation at high cumulative doses shows the link between radiation exposure and death from leukemia, lung, liver, skeletal and other solid cancers. Alongside radiation, gamma-rays also produce thermal burn injuries and induce an immunosuppressive effect.

Though not as instantly destructive, the exposure of Beta Radiation to organisams, can lead to considerable damage to the DNA macromolecule, as can alpha-emitting, actinides, namely – the plutoniums, amercium and curium which all Nuclear plants discharge.

For years the NRPB, (National Radiological Protection Board) who is responsible for monitoring all forms of radiation, to ensure safe limits, including domestic, industrial aplianceis, in the UK, Phone masts, mobile handset radiowave absorbancie concentration levals and the Radiation from Nuclear Power Stations and Weapon Factouries, denied for years the risks of danger to human health from the Nuclear industrie. With leukaemia clusters around Nuclear establishment sites, the NRPB has seen a tenfold reduction in the current legal anual radioactive dose limits for members of the Public. In 1957, the advised Radioactive exposure limit was 30 time greater than that of 1987, that advise, only being an interim guidline.

The dangers of so called weak radiation can not be ignored, since they are harder in some cases to detect and build up mor over time. Tritium for instance, gives off weak beta emissions, which are reportedly unable to penertrate intact human skin, though if tritium is inhaled, ingested or absorbed into the body, it can penertrate the cell nuclei and deposit all its energy into the chromosome. This is because the electron emitted by tritium’s decay has a short range of about 0.6 micrometres, that is less than the width of the human chromosome.

The comparitive weaknes of such alpha-emitting and beta-emitting actinides is thus the source of there danger in that they can result in considerable damage to the DNA Macromolecule, this being the critical site for the much of the worste effects of radiation, where as the effects of posible deposited radionuclides with larger beta and gamma energies (Gama of course having the larger penertraiting power), have much longer energie tracts, thus their
effects are diluted throughout the Organs whole body.

General Lighting ModeRaTor mentions breifly, at the end of the reply, that I the colouration did not appear visable at places like Aldermaston, Burghfield and Harwell despit having links with the nuclear industry and have been used for storage of radioactive materials. My only sugestion as to why this would be is that places used for storing Nuclcear weopons and or materials kept in storage, are going to be firstly underground and secodly protected for obviouse reasons by verry thick, and almost unpebntrable material, in order to keep them safe, though the belive that we dont need them, to live and that the world would be a saffer and better place if Uranium was left in the ground, where it belongs.

In short, I feel that the whole Nuclear Industrie is a World wide Scandal, from its beging of source in the Uranium mines which pollutes the lands of where it comes from from its excavation, to its dangorase transportation around the world by land, sea or plane, putting thousands of lifes at danger and threatening this beutiful planets wonderful and diverse ecology, from the fat cat power crazed evil mongering world leaders who compromise the worlds
safty by risking Nuclear projects, to the unconsevabal compleate wreck of life, which nuclear weapons are desighned for.

Sadly the Nuclear Industrie has destoyed many a liverlyhood, ecology, enviroments and lifes. A tailing pond in Jadugoda, Bihar State in India, the tailings pond from a uranium mine dried out and caused radioactive dust to contaminate a whole village, leaving a toll of miscarriagiages, cancers, neral disorders and deformed children. A uranium mine and enrichment plant in Sillimae, across the bay from finland, the USSR has now closed down since 10per cent of some 4000 children suffered hair loss, while 30 per cent are suffering skin disorders, as well as nerve damage, blood and intestinal disorders.

Following the Chernobyl incerdent, cancer rates of the popultion have increased from 204 per 100,000 between 1976 and 1980 to 344 per 100,000 between 1986 and 1989, that is a 70 per cent increase. More than 2000 children have damaged thyroids. Of the 600,000 people who were brought in fo the clean up operation, some 7000 have already died.

We may live in the 21st Century, but the fact remains that the dangors of radiation, are as dangourase now, as they ever were, no matter who or which body or privitisation is responsible for it.

The fact remains that there is still no long term way to store nuclear waste, with it remaining Radioactive for several tens of thousands of years, and perfetic attempts of storing it like the unsucsesful THORP international

nuclear dump reprosiing plant which has cost 10s of Billions to build, maintane and look after, most notable following a Huge radioactive leak closes Thorp nuclear plant, where a leak of highly radioactive nuclear fuel dissolved in concentrated nitric acid, enough to half fill an Olympic-size swimming pool, has forced the closure of Sellafield’s Thorp reprocessing plant.

The highly dangerous mixture, containing about 20 tonnes of uranium and plutonium fuel, has leaked through a fractured pipe into a huge stainless steel chamber which is so radioactive that it is impossible to enter.

Recovering the liquids and fixing the pipes will take months and may require special robots to be built and

sophisticated engineering techniques devised to repair the £2.1bn plant. The leak is not a danger to the public Brittish Nuclear Fuels insist, but is likely to be a financial disaster for the taxpayer since income from the Thorp plant, calculated to be more than £1m a day, is supposed to pay for the cleanup of redundant nuclear facilities.

Sadly for Humanitiee, the unsustainable delusion of cheap safe and clean Nuclear Power, tends to come with the international birden and threat of Nuclear weapons.. Blair_Wrights, who ever they are, probaly the same non

exsisting members of parlimentary democracy who clarified an Iraqui war, rub their thighs with glee to the concept of 25 Billion pounds being spent on trident replacment. Money that would be better spent on improving lifes such as, Healthcare, tacking poverty , education and protecting the enviroments such as our Oceans and Rainforrests and finding less harmfull, destructive and dangourise alternitive energy to meet the future needs, not playing a dangourise dice game, exploiting uranium from the ground, creating stockpiles of nuclear arsons round the world, Polluting our enviroments with the waste from nucleare energy disharges to our Oceans and atmospheares and storing and transporting Dangourise quantitiese of Radioactive waste.

Trident repacement would seriously discredit any UK Goverment claims that it is contributing to International Nuclear disarmament. We will all only be free from nuclear annilation when all countrys agree to the Global abolition of nuclear weapons. The repacement of such nuclear weopons systems as Trident, increases the threat of a Nuclear weopons being used against civilians in a War. The replacement of trident also sends out the wrong message to other nuclear-states around the world and an unethical and ultimatly unsustainable dangourse legacy.
