After every flight, Qantas pilots fill out a form called a gripe sheet, which conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The engineers read and correct the problem, and then respond in writing on the lower half of the form what remedial action was taken, and the pilot reviews the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humour. Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints and problems as submitted by Qantas pilots and the solution recorded by maintenance engineers. By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had an accident.
(P = The problem logged by the pilot) (S = The solution and action taken by the engineers)

Jokes aside, aren’t Quantas (one of) the only airline company with an unblemished safety record?
Qantas corporate PR department have spun the statistics slightly; the truth is that they have never had a fatal aviation accident.
There are two runway overruns reported for them separated by 40 years – which is an excellent safety record few other airlines can match
08.24.1960 Qantas Airways Lockheed L-1049G 0:50
Plaisance, Mauritius VH-EAC
09.23.1999 Qantas Airways Boeing 747-438 0:407
Bangkok, Thailand VH-OJH
I don’t travel much but would always try and select an airline where all ground and air staff are treated fairly and there are good industrial relations – even if it means paying slightly more for the ticket. The amusing banter of the qantas staff seems to reflect this…
I think aviation is still one of the safest forms of transport; but having angry disaffected people working at an airline is quite literally a recipe for problems and potential disaster when so many lives are at stake.
